Question Help review the upcoming FWC agenda for June 17-19, 2014

Many of you are very good at understanding the implications of pending regulatory changes that will negatively impact spearfishing. Please look at these agenda items for the upcoming FWC agenda for June 17-19, 2014 and post up any concerns you may have.

Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tony

Well, it is something but there are a few issues that will dramaticly skew the data.
The only real data it will be gathering is the number anglers that have any intention of targeting these species. The purpose for that is to seperate the them from inshore anglers that don't. Well that sounds good but being the designation is free, everyone will just opt for it anyway justifing the fact that they may catch one sometime durring the year. I say, make it $25 bucks per person per year to weed out anyone that has no intention of participating.

The phone and mail surveys are complete bunk and should be left out. The Feds won't even consider this data and it will just mud up the water on any real data obtained by law enforcement. Take the permit fees and beef up dockside boat checks targeting offshore capable boats. This data along with the annual number of commited offshore fishermen will offer the Feds real data that is not tainted by current seasons that are just state political ass lickings with the intent of obtaining future political support and votes.

Good points Kenny. The reason for free participation may be to increase the sample size for statistical validity purposes. If they charge for it, many people may avoid it. But, can you get a ticket for non-participation? I haven't looked at the details yet. I wanted to get the thread rolling because time to the meeting is short.

I just spent some time on the phone with Denny and he will post his input here soon. Basically, he thinks this recreational fishing registry is a good thing because it should develop data that may enable us to get back some of the fishing rights that were taken away due to flawed data in the past.

I don't know? Can you get a ticket if you have a snook in your cooler and don't have a snook stamp? Lobster?

Not if you are exempt from the regulations.
Florida is doing what the feds were supposed to do 14 years ago:
Define the universe of anglers.

Check out the post on the new FRA website:
http://thefra.org/fix-flawed-data/

And the feds should be doing the grunt work, not calling the shots and jamming an agenda down our throats. Alas, good recreational data collection does NOT benefit the few at the expense of the many, so investors seek other management schemes to privatize a public resource.

Did your FRA membership lapse? Go to the new site and get back on the battleship. You will like what you see. http://thefra.org/join

I'll be broadcasting the meeting on the FRA site for those who can't make it but want to listen in.

???? Exempt? Not grasping your statement here. No one recreationally fishing offshore for these species should be exempt if you really want numbers the Feds will take seriously.

The feuding caused between the Feds and the States by going against the current Federal management is going to take a lot of un-doing. IMHO it was a stupid move that has shrunk our RS season far beyond what we could of had and has created a pissing match between the two governing groups that is likely to just get worst.
