Sinus pressure, numb teeth

Does anyone know a good ENT specialist in key west. (one that dives or knows about diving) i descend to 20 feet and it feels like my forehead might explode, this happened a few months ago, and all the teeth on the top right side of my mouth went numb and have been since. tried to dive yesterday..same problem at about 15 feet. its driving me nuts! any help?
thanks

sounds like you might have a block in your maxilary or frontal sinuses, if your teeth hurt i think that means there is block in your maxilary

go to the doctor it sounds bad....

Re: Sinus pressure, numb teeth

ive seen a dentist, she told me to go to an ENT. i had my wisdom teeth taken out about six months ago. my dive instructor told me he had a woman in his class with a similar problem and they drilled out her sinuses with something like a mini roto rooter. im guessing thats the route ill have to take.

This is what happened to me. It wasn't a mini roto-rooter for me though. They went into my maxillary sinus through my upper gums and drilled straight in and irrigated and used suction until they got everything out.

I got my block when I was a kid though and ignored it like an idiot. It was later found by a great Navy dentist when he was looking at my boot-camp x-rays. Mind you this was over three years AFTER boot-camp!! The film showed a jagged distorted blob that had the doctor worried that it may have been a tumor. He called it a mucal dome and said that usually they are nice and round with smooth edges. I figure I had the block since I was fourteen or so. which was the first time I ever got a squeeze. The pain went away after a few days and I forgot about it. It must have hardened up and opened a small passage because I was able to dive with-in a few days. Every once in a while when my allergies were bothering me I get a horrible squeeze, but always in the exact same spot..

GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW!! Maybe you won't have to get drilled like I did. If you do, you may find yourself out of the water for a while. My dentist didn't want me diving for a YEAR!! I think I waited six months and the took it easy for a while.

Re: Sinus pressure, numb teeth

I have not had the teeth numbing but I did just have the surgery you are explaining. It is called endoscopic sinus surgery. I opted to have the surgery because I cannot clear my left ear very well and after every dive I would come up with blood in my sinus's and feel like shit for a couple days after diving (bad infection).

The surgery itself is pretty straight forward. Like you said, they rooter the inside of your nose to increase the size of your sinus cavity in some instatces they may make an incision in your gums and take out everything in your lower cavity (they did this for me).

Be ready to feel like shit for about 2 weeks, and be out of the water a minimum of 5 weeks. I had the surgery in June, I still have problems with my left ear. On the fence to wether it was worth the $1200 that insurance didnt cover.

Re: Sinus pressure, numb teeth

i went to john papsidero and all he wanted to do was run allergy tests and stuff. he wasnt much for listening about the diving side. I heard there is a woman on the island who is good, but i haven't personally seen her. Janice A. Moody 1111 12th st. suite 112, 305-292-2625

If your sinuses are clogged and your teeth are numb you need to lay off the Columbian powder.......I know it will be tough but it is for the best......Personally I hate the stuff but it sure does smell nice

Re: Sinus pressure, numb teeth

i know old thread but i wanted to share my story on this, happend 36 hours ago

i dove only 6-8 feet for some scallops and instantly on the boat ride home i had maxillary sinus pressure just on the right side. the pain was almost too much to bear and i spent the night pacing back and forth in the house waiting for the 3 tylenol PM's to kick in but it never helped

i woke up and the pain subsided but im left with complete numbness in my right upper row of teeth. and its been nearly two whole days like this, its the weirdest thing

i researched and im seeing that there is a facial nerve that runs near your maxillary sinus and any tramau to your sinus puts pressure/tramau on that nerve. can take weeks to subside!

Just and FYI for those researching this
