Nice fish. We picked up a 28 inch off Marathon last summer.

Re: Giant Mangrove Snapper!
awesome, I can tell by your smile you are happy....
a few questions, -did you check the roof of the mouth? anchors= mangroves, diamond=cubera, I know the hybrid exists, but not sure how to identify. -Do you know how to filet? If you dont, or arent comfortable thats cool, but that is a great skill to have and do well. Dont worry I know alot of great divers that suck at it. I would look it up on youtube, that mangrove would have yielded better. keep having fun

Re: Giant Mangrove Snapper!
Doubt its a hybrid honestly. Mangroves do get that big here in the spawn. The other week I shot one that size and last years spawn another friend of mine shot an 8lber, all off Marathon.
The day I shot a 7lber I saw one that was EASY 10lbs sitting next to him (and definitely a mangrove, ive seen plenty of cuberas). At the same time I had a 12lb mutton going crazy on my shaft and by the time I got my gun loaded and the mutton under control all that was there was the 7lber.. Still haunts me to this day. |

Re: Giant Mangrove Snapper!
lol some of you guys are greedy, I wish i can see a 6lbs in the Miami area I choose to hunt in! shat!
There's nothing wrong with the way the fish was cut it yields more meat for a group size dinner rather than an individual filet. |
