Re: Largest snapper greys,cuberas,muttons,etc

I think snappers are really fun to target, they learn fast, and the Cubera snappers tend to be really hard to get when outside of caves.
I have been a full day, just trying for a big one, not placing a silgle shot
as not to scare away the big Cubera, and still not landed it, it is a lot of fun, and am not ashamed to say she was smarter than me and deserves
to pass his genes to the next generation.

We had one that has been shot at before, it was big, and we saw her so many times that we even name it, LOLA, when Rick Bettua came to the
Old Navy base in Puerto Rico,we were figuring out were to take him, and
when he heard we said LOLA, He not only found it very funny, but agreed with us, months later he wrotte me, that if we ever landed Lola we would miss her, we never did, we had stop trying, but he was right.

I also love Dog Snapper, and we have so many of them, big ones, the dog snapper population is very healthy here, and the big fat ones are proof of it.

I even had a world record 19 pounder, and I took it the first day I tried for a dog snapper record.

I really enjoy harvesting and eating the smart doggies.

And of course, the tasty Mutton snappers, its a fish we normally dont see in caves, so it allows us to have fun with long spearguns in very clear waters.

Re: Largest snapper greys,cuberas,muttons,etc

I mainly hunt snappers here in Belize. We have big schools of dogs with cuberas hanging around and sometimes big schools of cuberas...BIG schools.
I love the challenge of them. As Roberto says, they're smart. They know I'm there....I know they're there and it's a long game of diving, acting uninterested, or pushing deeper and hiding. I feel great if I come home with 2 or 3 nice ones....even when it takes 3-4 hours to get them.

Re: Largest snapper greys,cuberas,muttons,etc

The hogfish was shot off islamorada but I didn't have a scale or anything. The mangrove isn't anything to brag about but I just like the story. I was up under a ledge, very dirty water, and shot at a nice sheepshead. When I got my spear out from under the ledge it had the sheep, triggerfish, and the snapper on it . I know this post is supposed to be snapper only but I thought you guys would like this beast lobster from a couple seasons ago. The tank is a steel 80 for size reference. Lobster and mangrove were out of SB inlet.

Here are a couple decent ones, freediving out Los Suenos, CR. i am not sure what the brighter red ones are, possibly colorado snappers, my mate calls them Guacamayas, (a local word for scarlett macaws), good eating none the less.

Re: Largest snapper greys,cuberas,muttons,etc

and a couple more. the dark red one is a mullet snapper, I always see big schools of them but they have allot of very pungent red meat that Must be cut out, leaving very little white meat for the size fish. the white is good, but the red is the worst blood line of any snapper i have ever eaten
