I thought the orange bands and the color matching made up for that? Isn't that how modern day marketing works...? ;-)

Re: New C4 Gladius speargun

C4 must be offering bands with their guns if these orange bands with "C4" printed on them are going to be standard fitment. You are thinking they should be like this, but how to drop the second wishbone between the fat bands already in place seeing they are so close together.

New C4 Gladius speargun

Primeline is making the bands for C4. Maybe these are small id but just guessing.

It should be available to order from April 2020.

Paolo Gosmondi who is the commercial director of C4 states that they have done extensive testing with this gun and that performance should be very good. Not sure if I want to take his word for it but even if it’s half true I guess you can make it to shoot straight and hard.

I would be interested to try the 85 model as a shallow reef and hole gun for clear waters.

Nothing about this gun looks like an improvement over the guns they have already produced. Just my two cents.

Re: New C4 Gladius speargun

Folding crank handle on the reel? Looks like the muzzle will only swallow two fat bands. Maybe three small diameter (OD) bands.

My guess is the Gladius is a general purpose gun that gets away from C4's quirky line wrapping on their other guns, namely the Graphite and Urukay which are also in the 2020 catalog. On these guns you need to remember to wind the line on the muzzle so that the spear is held without lassoing the muzzle lateral supports during the shot!

Here is the answer about the reel, from the 2020 C4 Carbon catalog.

in this design the line guide should be raised little up or tested and it won't tangled with bands ?

C4's composite work always impresses. It just seems like for every design feature I like, they do something else that irks me... on every gun they make.

Interesting comment but we really can’t read your mind to know which features you don’t like.

Using a forward facing hook it cannot go much higher as there has to be enough material to anchor it in. As the line can be wrapped on either side if you swap the line release lever to the alternate hole in the sear box roof they have hooks on either side of the muzzle, plus the line has to use both hooks anyway without a front vertical slot in the muzzle nose.

C4 want their guns to look different, hence you will find them using features that are not found on competitor offerings, although there is only so much that you can do on something as simple as a spear gun.

Re: New C4 Gladius speargun

Some time back we looked at a carbon fiber gun that had an inverted "U" shape at the rear end that a band battery could be situated in, but I cannot remember what it was or where I stored the photo of it. Anyone remember it as it is on this forum somewhere?

Found it http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=199227
Canova 95 Carbon gun

C4 could make something like this for an inverted rollergun line.

Regarding the muzzle design I can’t imagine the line hooks being a problem at all they might barely touch a band and even if they do I don’t think it would cause any tangles.
I would have rather seen some sort of integrated line hooks or something more sturdy than a bent piece of wire. A little wing to hook behind and a groove would be my preference. On either side so you can choose how to wrap.

Also I don’t see a dedicated line hook at the back of the gun to keep the line away from the bands. They could have come up with something low profile integrated solution there too.

It is clearly designed to use two bands max but who needs three bands if the longest gun is only 115? Would their be any conceivable gain with 3 bands? Again I don’t think so.

I am more concerned to see how the bands lay flat and if they can contract without any hindrance. No effort was made to raise the bands which is a bit odd to me.

The front line guide underneath the muzzle is placed so the line will have friction rubbing against the bottom of the muzzle.

I can imagine improvements to my taste but still like the overall design and move to a simple classic setup. I am sure it will appeal to a large audience including myself.

In his design, I prefer carbontek mantis even if I had setbacks with the brand
