Re: MAKO Spearguns: New Speargun Flashlight Mounting System
Looks good, I need a new light.
Battery Options: Uses a single AA or a single rechargeable 14500. What is the run time on a single AA battery? Powerful: Up to 680 Lumens LED light technology. I assume the brightness diminish progressively as battery drains. Is there a way to quantify the brightness as the battery drains? |

Re: MAKO Spearguns: New Speargun Flashlight Mounting System
Dano let me try one of these lights out a while ago. My recommendation is to go for the rechargeable battery, it is incredibly bright. You can always bring a double A battery for a back up or something, but I was really impressed with it.
The light is tiny and bright enough to be used in the day for looking under holes etc. It is hardly bigger than your thumb, so in addition to working on a gun, it can be carried by a freediver or a scuba diver without concern for drag etc. He also has a new larger hand held light that is brighter and has more burn time. Both of the new lights are very impressive to me.

Un-subtle and honest. LED technology has really moved forward in the last several years.

Re: MAKO Spearguns: New Speargun Flashlight Mounting System
This video, starting around 14 minutes was shot when I was using this tiny light as a hand held light while spearing in 100 plus feet, late in the day, with some dirty water layers above - pretty dark conditions. Maybe it will serve to give people an idea of how it works.

Re: MAKO Spearguns: New Speargun Flashlight Mounting System
Hey jfjf,
Thanks for posting that video clip. That thing is really bright. Hey Guys, I just made up another batch and shipped them to the warehouse on Friday. We should be able to start shipping them again by Tuesday or Wed. Also, I had another experienced diver do some testing with these lights and he was able to turn it on (by just barely twisting the head) while at the depth in which he was freediving. Then, each time he surfaced for air, it automatically turned off and then automatically turned back on by itself when he again reached that depth during another decent. I did not design it to do this, but it’s pretty cool. Apparently the water pressure is enough to automatically turn it on at depth if the on/off head is rotated to the exact spot. I can’t guarantee this will work every time, but it looks like there is some potential. Need to do some more testing on this feature. Thanks guys for taking time to read this. Hope all you Florida and Texas guys are alright! Dive safe, dano

Re: MAKO Spearguns: New Speargun Flashlight Mounting System
Hey guys,
Had a chance to use the new light and mount for the 2017 Nationals in Noyo, California. Let me tell you the setup was sweet, I mean super sweet!! Let alone the convenience of having a light on the end of your gun, and a hand free. This thing is super bright! Plus due to the pressure sensor on and off switch if you have it adjusted just right it will turn off automatically when you surface and turn on around 30ft. The whole set up is killer! |
