National - Scoping Meetings on New Overfishing Guidelines

National - Scoping Meetings on New Overfishing Guidelines Scheduled; Deadline for Comments Extended Until April 17

On February 14, NOAA Fisheries opened a scoping period to begin analyzing alternatives for implementing the annual catch limit and accountability measure requirements in the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act of 2006. The scoping period has now been extended through April 17, 2007 to provide additional time for the public to provide written comments and attend regional public meetings. Scoping meetings will be held at the following locations:

1-South Atlantic Fishery Management Council meeting, March 6, 2007, 6:30 p.m., Jekyll Island Club Hotel, Jekyll Island, GA
2-NOAA Science Center, March 9, 2007, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 1301 East-West Highway, Silver Spring, MD
3-Western Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting, as part of the Fishers Forum, March 14, 2007, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu, HI
4-Caribbean Fishery Management Council meeting, March 20, 2007, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Ponce Hilton Hotel, Ponce, Puerto Rico
5-Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council meeting, March 27, 2007, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Embassy Suites Hotel, Destin, FL
6-Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting, April 3, 2007, 8 a.m., Seattle Marriott Hotel, Sea Tac, Seattle, WA

Please note that the location of the Silver Spring meeting has changed; details regarding the dates and locations of these meetings are available online. NOAA may also schedule additional scoping meetings during the comment period.

In addition, written comments may be sent to annual.catchlimitDEIS@noaa.gov through April 17, 2007. Contact Mark.Millikin@noaa.gov with any questions.
