VIS: Forget About It

Waited for the winds and seas to die down. Went NW out of JP on Friday to the Blackthorn area and a little south. In 80' had green water and horz. vis. of about 10'. Surface water temp. around 68F. and bottom was 65F.. Thought the vis. would be better with the cold water. At least the seas were calm and almost like a pancake by late afternoon. We got 5 hogs and a nice red grouper with 2 dives. Guess, got to go further north for the gags or deeper out of JP.

I think you drove over the fish and viz. The past month the clean water and fish have been in the shallows. 20-30ft.

Re: VIS: Forget About It

Water was light brown to dark green down here out of Johns Pass when we headed out. Stopped on a reef on the way out in 38'. Lowered a sardine on hook and line in 38'. Sardine disappeared about 15' down. An old time diver taught me that trick for a visual check. Usually, a good indicator. Except, if you have a wicked thermal just off the bottom. Thanks for the info up your way. Anybody, dive up there in the last few days?

Re: VIS: Forget About It

That blow Monday did a number on the shallow vis. We went West out of Anclote yesterday. Did a quick drop in 45’ and vis was about 10’. Moved out to 55-75’ and had about 15-20’ vis. Found some gags, hogs, mangos, scamp and a king on the flatline. Water temp was 67ish.
