Re: If your kids play soccer
Thatīs the new trend on NYT. yesterday it appeared there an article about Derek Boogard "The Boogie man" titled " A brain going bad" Pertaining to the extensive brain damage of the toughest "enforcer" on NHL.
All contact sports and overcompetitive sports carry a high level of brain damage risk. Boxing is not a sport is a slaughter house. Do you remember how articulated Ali used to be? My God, Iīll stick to spearfishing, wich is a very dangerous sport. Holding your breath to the limit would certainly tax your brain somehow, What do you think?

Scary as hell. wouldnīt be great to go back to the ole days when men were men and we used to knock our heads out for no reason? Shit I got my share of knock outs and blows to the head countless of times. Is tough to be an athlete this days, too much info about the risks I guess. I really think Boogards had just plain bad luck, but the causes of his untimely passing are not clear enough. Does the pain killers produced him a premature death, or were the chronique headaches which led him to vicodin abuse? Getting head taps is not a good idea after all

Re: If your kids play soccer
This happened yesterday by the way. The russian boxer died and he wasnīt even getting a beating. This was the first K.O. In his boxing career. So the continnous head trauma is to blame I guess.

Re: If your kids play soccer
While very interesting the one problem with this research is who heads the ball 1,100 times a year?
The math does not work unless the coach has a special drill for heading the ball during practice over and over again. If this is the case then that is something very easy to correct. |

Re: If your kids play soccer
My son played water polo, and was told that he had no choice but to swim too.
I played football, but I'm really glad he didn't. However, he was a goalie, so he probably took more balls to the head than other positions. |
