Watertight seal on powerhead rounds

Any tips on how to ensure that no moisture gets into the round that's used in a powerhead? I've heard clear nailpolish on the primer is a good idea.

I use colored nail polish for a few reasons.
I can tell at a glance if the round has been sealed.
It's easier to see if you missed a spot.
Once a couple of yellow rounds miss fire, I know it's time to toss them & start using the red rounds.
And the number one reason to use colored polish: When your buddy passes out at your party, it's a lot more fun to paint his nails a bright color than just giving them a clear coat.

The only true way to be sure all your rounds is sealed properly
is to use military rounds which are sealed at the factory.

i prefer lime green finish so it will match my wetsuit/bc outfit color coordination. without proper coordination you might as well just be spearing fish.

Where can you get military rounds?

Any gun dealer or pawn shop should be able to order them if they don't have them on the shelf.
I use the cheapest brand Walmart has (about $4 a box) and paint the primer & crimp at the lead with nail polish. They even come with an accesssory bullet holder made of sturdy plastic. The perfect holder for painting, drying, and displaying your new colorfull .223 rounds!
Order now! Supplies are limited!

Use nail polish on the primer and around the bullet. Also I have been buying WOLF 223 ammo that is laquer coated. I have taken this ammo unpainted to 180ft and it still worked.

Not to get way off the subject or anything but...

Abso****inglutely, several have stuck in the chamber on me. In a pinch had to use the car anteanna to pop the casing out. I shoot a Olympic shorty and a colt H-bar. Only fired the wolf through the olympic.

A 5.56 mm cleaning rod down the barrel will work just as well. Have any of you guys ever tried to use blank ammo in a powerhead? Doesn't that work just as well on the fish? I am thinking of carrying a powerhead but I would feel more comfortable if blank ammo would work. After seeing most of the powerheads out there I still feel more comfortable working around C4 plastic explosives and grenades than I do with the powerheads I have seen. The possibility of accidential discharge is still too high for my comfort level.

Ditto on UW Hunter said. IMHO the military rounds are almost 100% for 3 or 4 dives.

A while ago...

I brought up the blank question too, Hector. After a few days of talking about it I have not heard if anyone has tried to seal and use some blanks. Anyone out there give it a wing? I'm still curious about it too. It will probably be the only way my powerhead makes it off of my wall at home.

Milatary ammo is only 2/3 as powerful as a hot hunting load .Muzzle energy is the only reliable way to compare the amount of force transmitted into the water.A hot .223,.44 or .357 Maximun range from 1000lt lbs on up.The .223 looks hotter but the barrel specified usually 20".I have bad luck with reloaded or surplus stuff.Wally World sells varmint loads @ $8per40 to $11per40.Way cheaper that .44 and .357 max.A single layer of bright polish.Shake them after diving you can hear the powder in a good round.

The shaking doesn't always work. You have to have been able to here it originally to no that it is not a compressed load, which would make no noise if shaken but still be quite deadly!
