All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective. |

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
Gatku or crist. Riffe is way overpriced. Gatku is super fast. Crist will be best for larger fish and will last a really long time. The crist isn't slow as some say as long as you power it right. Since Aaron is not really selling spears now until his new design comes out, I say wait for it and get the new design. Or get the gatku.

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
I've been told by a lot of people to get a crist. But mainly reef diving, grouper, snapper, hogs, maybe mackrel, and I want a polespear because I just wanna try something new...and like 200-250 max...I already have a slip tip

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
Try lance Ohara or 3prong Hawaii, both are great polespears.
http://www.youtube.com/3pronghawaii Crist is a great spear as well, it's a thicker diameter and heavier spear, therefore a little slower than the lighter spears as LO, Gat-ku, 3prong Hawaii etc but it packs on hell of a punch. If you want a fast spear with some punch the Lance Ohara hybrid is a great option for the Reef. I have all of the ones mentioned above plus a few others not mentioned. Good luck! Chad

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
I think aaron said sometime early 2013 if i remember right. The Crist is great on the reef. I have an 8 foot with an 18" flopper shaft for the reef. Ive also use it in the bluewater. I just got a 30" shaft and sliptip for the blu water though. As i said earlier, powered right, the crist is plenty fast. Ive never had an issue with its speed. It quite durable which makes it great on the reefs. As others have said. Save your self some hassle and get the crist. It gets the job done and itll last. Its proven to be a fish killer. Why look further?

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
Damnit. I said get a Crist. Stop trying to convince him otherwise.
Seriously though, I hear good things about the gatku. I think Crist and gatku are really the best pole spears. |

Re: Gat-ku vs. Riffe vs. Mako
I have a Gat-Ku flopper shaft and three prong on my Lance Ohara, best of both worlds and I have a Crist 8' with 3' slip tip for bigger pelagics. Screw Riffe's don't know why an
8'foot pole spear with flopper shafts come out to almost 400 bucks. Cam is a great diver but he could of shot those Mahi's, AJ's, Cobia with any Gat-ku's, Crist, JBL, Mako's Polespear. Hell I could shoot any of those fish with said polespears if I had access to get to those fish.
