Re: Ear ringing after free diving any remedys?

~~ Hey Double A, after all is said and done, when you start diving again, start equalizing your ears right at the surface, as soon as you upend, start clearing your ears.
~ Work it out near the surface, every dive, Especially this first dive.
Cheers, K.

I listened to my music way too loud as a kid and suffer from this tinnitus for as long as i can remember, and I snorkel just fine.

You might want to consider a sound screen for your bedroom to help sleeping at night. Otherwise, itll likely be something that stays with you for life :/

Re: Ear ringing after free diving any remedys?

I just learned about a supplement that takes tins away. It worked for my buddy. Apparently it is tied into a Vagal response that is treatable. I lost about 50 after months of a break. Still diving, and won't stop soon.

Re: Ear ringing after free diving any remedys?

Interesting this same thing happened to me freediving, I usually SCUBA. It was very obnoxious ringing as you know. But mine went away after 3 days. I was pretty scared for it since I dive for a living.

I did a few google searches and couldnt find much except for the Tinnitus but they dont have a lot of info on that.

One thing you could do is call DAN, Divers Alert Network. They wont diagnose but they can answer some questions.

Good luck and look forward to hearing the outcome.

Re: Ear ringing after free diving any remedys?

I did exactly the same thing you did while freediving to 100 feet. When I got out of the water my ear felt full and I immediately noticed some hearing loss.

After visiting two ear specialists, it was determined I damaged my ROUND WINDOW in the inner ear. If your not familar with the RW, do some research.

Tried oral steriods first, with no help. Finally, the most experienced Ear Dr said he could put some steriod right on the spot. I asked how he would do that and he said with a needle through the eardrum. I said I'll think about that a while! Well, after a while I went back and had the procedure done. It helped!

Still have the ringing, but was able to get back to freediving. I limit my dives to about 70 feet now and will not attempt anything deeper.

You might try a conversation with a DAN doctor who is much more knowledable than normal ear specialists.

I use a fan at night for some soft noise to counter the ringing for sleeping

Good luck man

Les
