No, you're not missing anything. Lots of doom and gloom that is being spread.

I think all the stakeholders on the GOM made a good move early and will not have to suffer like other areas that waited for the hammer to drop.

I was the only recreational guy at th last meeting. There were tons of commercial guys speaking up about their interests.

Would be worth attending the meetings and voicing opinions in a setting that can actually make a difference.

Re: 14" Minimum Hogfish in the Gulf

The major changes for the Gulf if approved, and they will be, are an increase in minimum size from 12" at the fork to 14" at the fork.

No plans to cut the bag limit in Federal waters from the current 5 fish per person per day.

The current Hogfish total catch limit for the GOM right now is 219,000 Lbs. This includes both Rec and Comm . The proposal is that starting in 2019, the total catch limit will be cut to 159,300 Lbs. Over a 25% decrease in landings.

You can bet that the decreased catch limit will cause closures in the latter part of upcoming years.
If you stay in this sport, and really apply yourself , in 10 years you might be the diver you think you are today.
