Playa Garza, Costa Rica

We when out on a full day trip in the Panga, and the day started kinda off. The first spot the current was blasting, so we just did a couple drops, I broke off on a small Yellow fin there, and did not see much else. So we went to the next spot, the current was perfect, the bait was up, and there where small Yellow fin jumping around the boat. Mind you i just re-banded my gun, so i shot high and tore off a yellowfin, and shortly after, I had a nice Cabrilla come so close and yet again shot high on it. So after that disappointment, we went to another spot, finally found the bait there, and on the bottom about 50ft to nice AJ's came in placed a perfect shot, and put it in the boat, it was a 30lb'er. I told my client where the fish were holding and i got back in. I was on the bottom again, and thought i saw a big rooster ( i was just going to check it out) and realized it was a much bigger AJ, placed another perfect shot, and put it in the boat, it ran 60lbs. The viz kinda closed up there, so we went back to the second spot, and the bait was still holding perfect, and the current had picked up just a little. I had 30lb AJ's just hanging around the whole time, andi just let them go. Then i saw my client get back into the boat and new we where done for the day, so i shot another 30lb'er, and gave it to my Pangero. So we headed back in for the day, all in all it turned into a pretty good day!

Hi Ryan, Nice captures from Playa Garza++.
Congrats!
Be back in the Guanacaste area mid january and pretty keen to chase yftuna again.
Seems to me that longliner fishing with live bait has been banned for 2 years on the pacific CR coast... did you recently spot this kind of stuf? (about 3000 to 5000 hooks).
Pics taken at the end of 2009.

The local guys long line all the time, and some of the bigger boats still come in, but it has decreased a lot. The Persaners have been push 35miles out as well. This year the tuna have already been better than i have seen for three or four years! When you are in the area give me a call!

Re: Playa Garza, Costa Rica

Ryan, great to hear that the tuna season will be hot there .
Pleased to keep in touch mid january with you from Samara. We could organize a meet offshore for tuna spotting with the 2 boats; they do swimming as usually fast and just under dolphin school... 20 to 40 miles off the coast
I never forget this missed fish:

Nice work Ryan! Aren't you supposed to not outfish your clients though, so you can make them look good? What is the best season in your area for a combo surf/fish trip? I'd like to get down there and go fishing with you guys sometime soon.
