Giving Carbon Fiber a try....
So I'm goin to give carbon fiber a try this winter. I have a mid handle gun that I was not crazy about how it came out. So.... I'm truing it into a roller. I will post the pics as I go. I will not be using a vacuum bag. Well because I don't have one. so all by hand. Ill take any and all tips!

Re: Giving Carbon Fiber a try....
Yep trying to round body out as much as I can. Was thinking about using a large chunk of 1-inch foam as a press my guess is this would act just like a vacuum. Here's the handle so far

Re: Giving Carbon Fiber a try....
Okay so I got my carbon today I've taken two strips down each side only 2 inches wide so far. I put the epoxy on first waited about 2 and 1/2 hours then the carbon just stuck in place perfectly except for the head of the spear gun that tooka little doing. I'll have to post pictures later my phone's not wanting to play

Cool. Do you think it was worth shaping your own handle? I'm at the start of a couple new builds now and wonder if its worth the time.

Sweet I bet your nose is full of orange snot.
Okay here those pictures from earlier these are just the first two layers kind of quilt work and I'm currently putting the final layer on in one piece all the way around. Putting the apoxie on and then letting it sit for 2 hours till it gets tacky makes working with this stuff pretty easy |

Re: Giving Carbon Fiber a try....
I used 300 G twill. First I put 2-inch strips down both sides double layers then I sanded all that down smooth at least all the edges then I put one layer 8 in wide over the entire thing rapping from the bottom up. The video that I posted up above details how to put it on wait time for the epoxy and everything and that technique worked very well so far hear pictures of the final layer before final epoxy

Re: Giving Carbon Fiber a try....
Ok so hear is the almost finished gun. with three cots of clear. just have to finish the trigger and guard. so there are a couple blemishes but that was due to me not giving the epoxy 48 hours before sanding. all and all I thought that I was goin to regret not using a vacuum! but the hole thing was quite easy. that's if you apply the CF when the epoxy is tacky.
