All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective.

Small ID pole spear band?

Would it make sense to try out small ID for a pole spear band?

Is something like 8mm or 10mm rubber even made with small inner diameter?

So many are raving about it for guns, that I was just wondering if anyone had tried it for pole spear yet.

Nice! How did you measure to determine the right length for 360% - total length?

Distance from where i atach my band to where i hold the spear when loaded most of the time. That divide by 3.6

What did you use for a loop to put your hand in to hold the band. Mind sharing some pictures, I have a Neritic Big Blue as well and thinking about doing an identical setup.

Re: Small ID pole spear band?

No photo sorry but its just a piece of strap from old backpack that i tied in a loop to fit mi hand and put a metal marine stainless quick release just in case. If i had to do it again maybe i woukd sew the loop instead of knot and no quick release as i have discovered hand NEVER gets caught.

Good luck

I have a 13mm single Small ID for my Japanese-inspired DYI polespear. But that may not mean anything as it's my first and only spear...
I loose a bit of band length with the hand strap but I think I make up for it by being able to hold higher loads.

I know they make them down to 12mm, not sure if they make them thinner.

Re: Small ID pole spear band?

As for the hand strap, I totally agree with Polespearo - no need for couplings, just make it as simple as you can. If you do intend to put a shackle or similar in the "power train" then make sure it's at the hand end and not the spear end. Reason being if something snaps, you don't want a piece of metal flying towards you.

Here's a bit more about how I made mine (check both pages of that thread):
http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=189986

I went a bit overkill, but I had the time, so why not. But you can make it much simpler.
I have had the spear out only on two trips (Japan and Indo) but I really like the strap and the rest hook. I am fairly sure that combination makes me able to holder stronger band loads.

Re: Small ID pole spear band?

We have been using small ID bands for polespears for several years now.

If you chose color black you will notice we have it in 12mm and 13mm.
