JBL Problems

Hey guys and gals having an issue with my Woody JBL. Yesterday shot at a big mangrove and missed it and watched my line break and shaft sail into the merk. Ugh, $100 gone get back on the boat go to rig up a new shaft and the shaft will not lock into the gun.

The shaft is acting like the locking mechanism is frozen and won't allow it to lock back. At first, I thought it was the shaft but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Anybody have this problem before?

Re: JBL Problems

I am not familiar with the trigger mechanism used for this gun, but did you check the line release?

Re: JBL Problems

You probably have a problem with the line release spring, broken or out of place!

Re: JBL Problems

Line release spring still attached looks like its still in good shape. Im no expect here but we are talking about the latch on the side of the gun where the cable wraps around correct?

Re: JBL Problems

Hey this isn't a mechanical fix, but I didn't know for the longest time that the safety has to be on "fire" for those guns to lock the shaft. I hope its as simple as that, good luck with your gun.

Correct, that is the line release. Is it auto setting?

Re: JBL Problems

I have had a problem if my shooting line is fairly tight on the line release. For some reason it wouldn't lock the shaft in. Made a slightly longer shooting line and it works fine now. I also have found that if you put the butt against something solid it helps and makes a definite click when it locks the shaft. But those are great triggers.

Re: JBL Problems

I have had issues a few times underwater with it not wanting to seat properly and have to rack it a few times to get it to lock the shaft in place. Now I cant get it to lock at all.

Re: JBL Problems

Im pretty sure its a M7 series trigger as I bought my gun in 2014. Idk when the M8 started going into the woody magnums. I took the handle off and looked at the mechanism and cant see and springs that are broken or damaged.

Re: JBL Problems

I was having similar problems with my JBL then sprayed a bunch of lube on the line release and fixed it right up
