SoCal leisure diving trip (from NorCal)
My dive buddies and I will be making a trip to SoCal to dive next Wednesday through Sunday.
We are free divers that mostly dive for fun and occasionally spearfish up in NorCal, but on this trip we're more excited to just explore and take photos (just got an Aquatica DSLR housing with some strobes). On Thursday we'll be hopping a ferry from Ventura to dive Santa Cruz Island for the day. Any idea tips on where do dive from there? We're headed to the Scorpion Marine Reserve. Friday we're thinking of spending the day at Shaw's Cove, we've been before and enjoyed it. We still have more time to dive and are looking for other spots. Any tips? We are thinking of La Jolla, or Malibu. Anyone want to buddy up and just dive for fun? Thanks! |

No gamefish this time! We're leaving our guns at home.
Just shooting with a camera. |

the viz hasn't been too good down here, but La Jolla is likely your best bet if ya make it to SD.

If you're just shooting pictures LA Jolla cove is full of big dumb calico, leopard sharks and lot's of guitarfish. Weather/surf looks to be less than ideal around then though.

For another shore dive spot, was thinking of the Marine Protected area at Point Vicente, Palos Verdes. Is it pretty fishy?
I have only been to Shaw's Cove. |
