Spanish Mackerel?
I caught this fish on rod and reel last spring off Destin Florida. I had never caught mackerel before, but based on my fish book that I keep on the boat, I concluded that it was a legal sized Spanish Mackerel and took it home and ate it. Saw recently that the state record in Florida is only like 12lbs. Just curious whether this is in fact a Spanish Mackerel as opposed to a cero or something. Also, if it is a Spanish, how close would you guess it is to 12lbs (my estimation skills are poor). Not that I could do anything about it now, but I am curious. Thanks for the help!

Re: Spanish Mackerel?
Might be wrong, but looks like a juvenile king.

Re: Spanish Mackerel?
I was sort of thinking the same thing but I caught a kings around the same size and they were much more grey and didn't have the spots. This one was very green and yellow. You could still be right though

Re: Spanish Mackerel?
With the coloration and the drop in the lateral line, it looks like a small king mackerel to me. This is an older blog post, http://forshorefishing.blogs.theledg...kerel-easy-id/, but the descriptive information is still relevant.
