installing neptonics reef line release

Hi everyone,
i've been having some trouble working out where to locate the slot for the line release on a neptonics reef mechanism. I have tried contacting josh at neptonics and his australian dealer but neither have been very helpful unfortunately. any help would be much appreciated

thanks in andvance

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

I would suggest getting the Neptonic template for install- it makes things real easy. I have the old one, but I believe the new version has the line release slot on it. I have also made a makeshift template out of a piece of a plastic from a milk jug.

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

Is it the auto-reset with the little tab on the bottom, or the standard mech?
Did you try this?

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

I think it is the auto reset as it has a tab at the bottom. I tried the top diagram for my first attempt at installing it however i had issues with the slot location and the pin hole, these both may have been due to my converions or something else. is there any benefit to utilising the auto reset over the other one? the mech also has the slot higher up which would correspond to the bottom drawing.

thank you both, your help is appreciated.

cheers, Matt

You got a diagram like that for the Tuna Mech? I have the jig but it still seems a little screwy.

Sorry for butting in on you thread bro.

With the Tuna mech I run 1 - 7/16in from the rear of the mech and 1/8in from the wall of mech out (for non auto reset) .. using a drill press it works everytime.. there is also a small amount of room for error ( I stess small amount) . Hope this helps

Myrran I don't mind at all mate. It would be great if someone could post up the diagrams for all of the mechs. I'm sure it would
be apprecited by many. Ideally neptonics would have them available on their website as downloads.

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

I use a Herranen bottom line release on my Tuna Mech guns so I'm not sure what the measurements are for the side line release. It starts to get tricky making them work with the wider dimensioned guns, and some guys will recess the area around the l.r. to make room for the shooting line wraps.

It's not too hard to make a template from a clear plastic food container lid, and then just trace it onto the gun.

.....kind of how like WestCoastDiver recessed his gunstock at the line release:
(nice gun, by the way...)

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

thanks for that fellas. this gun is a pretty low profile mid handle gun so i won't need to gouge out the sides. that one you linked does look nice though.

if i go the path of the standard slot, what is the major differance to the auto resetting? sorry but i have not used a neptonics mech yet.

cheers

You could also make a longer line release lever. That's how I've done the wider guns, but I like the clean lines of the one shown. The recessed lever might protect it a little more as well. Might have to try the recessed lever on the next one.

So where are the picture Depol? I am looking forward to seeing your gun.

When I have these two mid hadles complete I will post them here & SpearOz.

I remembered your thread so I could find the line release offset.

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

It would be nice if these types of diagrams accompanied the trigger mechs.

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

I agree Mike.

I set up a template to work out the best location.

After stuffing around with it for 1/2 an hour I consulted my mate Google. He didn't help!

I searched through the "how to section" and remembered Depols thread.

A quick calculation to convert these strange measurements to metric and template is working great.

Re: installing neptonics reef line release

yes, they really should be included reefgeek.

i sorted everything out with josh and the next gun shouldnt be a problem. (as much) used the standard line release on the current gun but i bought two more mechs and the jig from josh. the jig does make life easier but i think i might make a copy from steel so it can cop more of a beating.

pank, i done a fair bit of work on the gun last weekend but did not take any photos. been working flat out all week so will get some this weekend. only have a bit more carving left then its done. it has changed a fair bit from the photos you saw.

in short, CALL josh/ danielle. i spoke to them both and its much easier than email.

cheers, DEPOL
