Re: Current Vis Islamorada 73MM - Key Largo 106MM

Vis has been good lately from Davis to Alligator...40 to 60 feet, 80 feet on the high tide. Even had 80 feet in close the other day. Little bit of a thermocline on the reef but it really hasn't effected vis. Temp is nice too.

Re: Current Vis Islamorada 73MM - Key Largo 106MM

Was out again this weekend and had 60 to 80 foot vis near the Fingers in 50-60ft of water. We now have a S-SW wind that is over 20 kts and gusting to 30 kts (depending on the storm cells) so the vis will go to shit for a few days. Water temp was nice...I wore a 1.5mm and never got cold at all; most the other guys were in rash guards and they were comfortable.
Fish...mangrove snapper bunched up on coral heads, shot a couple of nice grouper, ocean triggerfish were plentiful, saw a few cero and maybe a kingfish (it was big), saw some big yellowtail but couldn't get close enough for a shot.

Happy hunting.

Re: Current Vis Islamorada 73MM - Key Largo 106MM

Been flat on the surface with big tides on the full moon. Vis has been ranging from 40ft and hazy on the low tide to 80+ on the high/incoming tide. Good top to bottom vis too out to 60 feet. This week the visibility should be great as the tidal swing will drop off a bit between the full and new moon phases. Surface temp is pretty warm and I died in a 1.5mm the other day...time for the rashguard.

Re: Current Vis Islamorada 73MM - Key Largo 106MM

I took my girls down to a friend's house in key largo for the second day of mini. We found our limit on a small patch reef in 10'-15' of water. My younger girl snagged her first lobster with a lobster lasso and my oldest daughter was bringing bugs in on her own with a non-automatic snare which was so cool! We got our limit by noon and headed out to some deeper water to look for fish. I couldn't get close enough for a shot with my pole spear to a black grouper, but was able to find this just docile enough mutton to bring it in for dinner. It was a 24" fish. The visibility was top to bottom in the 35' that we were hunting and the number of boats wasn't too bad. I'm used to Miami so maybe it was normal for key largo, 10 or so boats within a couple mile radius. We didn't have to mess with trailering the boat, either, so it was a good, stress free day!
