Decent Cobia Freediving 4/3

Haven't been out much the last year but made it out this past Saturday in Jupiter with jfjf. Tied my PB for cobia with a 55 lb'r. Shot it off the back of a bull shark while freediving in 75ft. There was another bull and a hammerhead on the same dive too. Got the cobia in no problem but the scary part happened after jfjf talked me into doing another drift on the same spot. He shot a mangrove and upon surfacing couldn't figure out where his fish went. It didn't take long to answer that riddle. We ended up with 5 bulls circling us on the surface taking turns charging us. Luckily the boat arrived pretty quickly. As jfjf was climbing into the boat his son remarked - "Daddy, Mr. Scott didn't even touch the side of the boat when he got in".

Vis was top to bottom in 65ft strait out of the inlet but got dirtier as we headed north. Vis where the sharks were was probably only 30ft. I can't say enough about the accuracy of my Mako 130. When I pull the trigger it's just about guaranteed a fish is going in the cooler. I’ve had good days before not missing anything but I think this is about the 4th or 5th good day strait with this gun. I can't be on that much of a lucky streak! I'm not sure if it's the open muzzle, heavy barrel or smooth trigger but there's something about that gun that makes it consistently more accurate than anything I've ever shot before.

Nicely done Scott! I have the same 130 and am very impressed. I have pulled the trigger twice and two stone shots...one a pretty long shot quartering away.

Someone needs to tell them it's time to go back north...

If that's just decent, I'd hate to see what you get excited about. Nice Cobia

Re: Decent Cobia Freediving 4/3

Thanks everyone. I was planning on calling it 'big' until I saw KingOfSling's post with his 73 lb monster, then I decided I'd better tone it down to just 'decent'.
