Humans mated with Neanderthals

Probably after a few too many drinks.

Re: Humans mated with Neanderthals

This has been a major issue in the scientific community, many scientists believe that the difference is the human races is when the migration of modern humans came out of Africa they interbred with the various other species of humans that they encountered.

Re: Humans mated with Neanderthals

Bill, have you read "Born to Run?" It's a great read. The most fascinating part to me is about homo sapiens and neanderthals co-existing until homo sapiens learns to run and track game, becoming the dominant species...100000 years later here we are.

Re: Humans mated with Neanderthals

Humans lost their body hair so they could sweat and keep their bodies cool while running down animals.

While most grazing animals could out run humans for short distances, these animals didnt have any way to cool their bodies down. Humans by running after them slow but steady, the grazers overheated and died from a fryed brain.

Wilpoof's comment that if there was one thing that typified Homo sapiens, it was his eagerness to have sex with almost anything seems to be bearing out.

How many human-neanderthal hybrids survived, and how they were treated by either society remains an interesting and unanswered question. My thoughts are: since their DNA has apparently survived the millenia, apparently those hybrids were accepted by human tribes. Any neanderthal women may have very well been integrated and supported by a human community during a pregnancy. Which suggests they didn't just whore themselves out for a single meal (thought the tryst may have started under that circumstance), and then go off on their own - it was a rough ice age landscape, and there is evidence that Neanderthals often committed infanticide rather than support a pregnancy or a baby during a time of famine. Humans were more resourceful, and able to live in larger communities.

Human women pregnant by Neanderthals? I think that's a little less likely, given the male character for territoriality.

You are thinking humans civilized in the last 5,000 years. Before agriculture any female that was sexually receptive was a welcome addition to the tribe.

That may well be. But I would respectfully submit that you're the only one here who is qualified to know. Please tell us more about life before the last ice age.

I happen to think there are plenty of neanderthals running around today.
