Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

I'm going to be in SB tomorrow dropping my daughter off at the grandparents, who live near Mesa Lane/Hendry's. If anyone has eyes on those areas today and wants to give me a vis report it'd be much appreciated.

So far this season I don't believe there has been an incidence on our coast relating to a freediver. I hope that maintains. I'm still getting in the water this Monday; I just wish the vis was better. And yeah, nice fish Chris.
thanks for the shark report simon. I'll keep an eye out. hope ya score on monday

On vacation with the wife at Catalina. Yesterday in the Avalon dive park I had one swim right up to my face, stop, look me in the eyes, and pass by. I even got to touch it as it swam by. Some guy got the whole thing on his gopro. I talked with him later, he said he'd email me the clip. I hope he does.

Sweet. How was the vis? I'm going to the islands on the Peace Boat on Friday.

I dove Goleta pier today with 5-8' vis. Saw 4-5 lingcod, took the biggest that was barely legal, and a 14" Grassy. Hit my personal best down time: 1:57

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Found pretty nice conditions out there on the rising tide. 10-20 ft vis around noon.

I shanked a rubber lip and a 2+ft calico with a red head came up to me to investigate as I was already going up for air. No luck getting him to stick around.

My girlfriend and I munched out on a bomb Kevin-sized spider crab.

Epic summer dayz

Lots of green and red areas on the latest Tempbreak satellite image. Some clouded over areas near SB that would have to be looked at.

Water looked reddish brown today where I checked, with bigger than typical swell.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Dove between Gavi and Taj with CabMaster this afternoon from about 3-6. Water was pretty warm, viz was so-so inside about 8-10, and turned to a hazy 5-8 outside in about 25-30ft depth. The water also seemed reddish in color in spots...

No gamefish seen/heard, did see some monstrous perch and opies though. Saw a decent calico that took off as fast as i had seen him, no time for a shot.

Lots of RF out in some spots, was able to take a stringer of them home for a nice meal and then some. Not very sporting when these RF let you line up a shot right between the eyes...feeling like i need to challenge myself with something else.

Fun Diving

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

I scrambled to get a quick dive in after work today and managed to get in from 6:30-dark. Water was 62* and viz was a hazy 8-12'. Lots of gamefish seen, even had a school hang around with me for 10 minutes at one point. Held off on plenty of smaller ones waiting for an upgrade, but no luck. Lots of freshly birthed shiner Perch out in the 3-10' depth range. Saw some very large bat rays, a big angel shark and a short halibut in the shallows.

If you get our in the water tomorrow and start seeing the large schools of baby perch, it might be a good idea to hit the shallows and look for halibut. I would have worked the shallows a little longer, but halibut aren't my thing, I suck at finding them, and they are hard to see, and they are jerks, and what kind of asshole fish has two eyes on the same side of their head. Halibut are the worst.

Hey Colby,
Is that a hint of a conscience already. It took me years to grow one, and sometimes it still fails, and I still feel like an a?!hole (I just hope that feeling is not being).
