I think you may be right - but it will be worth it! Maybe you should change out the RA to open muzzle too...

Re: Shooting High with my Mako Oceanic 120
If it were me, I would have one or more of my buddies, (preferable the one(s)) who can shoot straight, try your gun the way it is. If they shoot it accurately, then it's not the bands, but the way you are shooting it or holding it.
It's amazing how accurately a buddy of mine could shoot one of my guns that I thought was all f'd up... Ron. |

Re: Shooting High with my Mako Oceanic 120
The truth is that not all guns shoot the same. Some shoot higher and some shoot lower, so once you get used to a certain gun chances are a new gun make will shoot differently. You need to shoot it quite a few times till you get used to the new offset, but once you do you are going to think your older gun shoots too low. If you take a gun and shoot it in a pool, you will immediately notice that with each 3 feet of distance there is quite a bit of drop. So the gun that is shooting too high for you is probably tuned for a little longer distance and will shoot dead on at a slightly longer distance. It is much easier to adjust to a gun that shoots high than a gun that shoots low. With a gun that shoots low you have to aim over a fish and you lose sight of your target, not so with a high shooting gun ... your target is always in view.

Re: Shooting High with my Mako Oceanic 120
ok i went out today using my oceanic 120 and i think i found the problem it is a line of sight issue, and not a band size issue. the loading pad hinders the sight of the shaft when aiming and what you end up doing is looking at the tip of the shaft and the u on the loading pad which makes it shoot high.

I have shot my Mako 120 many times. It shoots straight. Maybe it's your
limp-wristed throw technique

Re: Shooting High with my Mako Oceanic 120
I believe Greek is talking about not holding the gun firmly with a locked wrist when the gun goes. Sometimes poeple hold the gun with a limp wrist and tend to jolt a little bit to try and over compensate for recoil. Try to lock your wrist and not move at all when you pull the trigger.
A few years ago a guy told me that his shotgun was so off he couldn't hit anything with it. I told him i knew a little bit about about them and to let me work on it. I took it to the back of my truck where he couldn't see. I gave it back and said there, i fixed it. I told him some BS story. I told him it was loaded and to shoot it. Well he pulled the trigger, chamber was empty, and you would've thought he had a seizure when he pulled the trigger. He wasn't holding the gun firmly against his shoulder and flinched like turrets guy when he pulled the trigger. I said theres your problem. He then realized what he had been doing and only missed a few skeet for the rest of the day. Dylan |

oops it was joke.
Propman - shooting high is probably mental. You just don't have confidence in a new gun. I have the exact same gun and model with short bands. Last edited by greekdiver; 05-26-2010 at 12:18 PM. |

Re: Shooting High with my Mako Oceanic 120
Normally the spearguns come out from the factory with "pussy" bands (or not too short, to say it in a better way). They should shoot right as they are.
The trick to this is that you were used to shoot a closed muzle speargun and most likely you aimed with the bands (which run parallel to the shaft). Now, instinctively, you are still aiming with the bands, which now run with a downwards inclination. That makes your shaft going high. Keep shooting and your brain will correct your aiming. Some people can adapt faster than others, some struggle a little bit.
