North S.D. conditions R good. YT are in the shallows
Went out yesterday in Solana beach vis was 15 to 20 plus with lots of bait in the water. The water was not as cold as last week and the surf was small. I thought it might be good when I watched a seal destoying a yt or wsb 150 yards off the beach. I headed right for it off the beach. When I got close and found lots of bait but dirty water. I decided to swim out a little father to the clear water. Once I got into the clearer water it was loaded with bait. Schools of deans cruising by in the mid water and schools of smelt hugging the bottom. I found one particular area a few hundred square yards over some reef and eel grass that had a lot of bait on it. I decided to hang out there for a while. There were big schools of large surf perch, sargo and lots of other stuff sheapshead, calis and sand bass. I past them all by hoping for a target fish YT,WSB,or halibut. After close to 2 hours in the water it happaned a 25 pound YT came crusing through in 15 feet of water. He got with in 15 feet of me and right when I was going to pull the trigger he turned and started to swim away from me and I never pulled the trigger. I need new gun because I should have taken that shot but I just don't have any confidence that I will land the fish from that distance. Last week I hit a 15 pound wsb at the same distance just to watch hit it hard knock it sideways and not go through. Oh well maybe today is my day. I'll be on it in 30 minutes

Re: North S.D. conditions R good. YT are in the shallows
Well, thanks for the report man. Sucks to hear about the WSB. I have found that its best to wait til you are super close no matter what it is you are shooting. "Perfect broadside" shots have been less than that in the past for me. With my current setup I have yet to lose a seabass or yellow this year and have taken quite a few. Good job holding off. Hell, the YT like to come back through after a while if you don't shoot usually anyways.
