Lobster Sashimi = Delicious

Finally nabbed my first lobster of the season last night. I decided to sashimi it up. I have been wanting to do this for a while but was weary about eating raw lobster. I have heard from other people that is was not a good idea, but after reading a post on here about how to do it, and some youtubing, I decided to give it a try. It was messy, and not pretty, but damn it sure tasted good. I dipped it in a little ponzu sauce and ate it with my fingers. I will definatly be eating my lobsters like this again. The taste was down right buttery and sweet, even had a little crunch to it.

Side note: she had some orange row in her when i pulled the tail out, anyone ever eat this? Also, any ideas what to do with the head, I just threw it out, but I bet you could do something with it.

That would be spelled; ROE. Normally, I keep the spelling and grammar thing low key, but that one was just too funny... Sorry.

Lobster sashimi is delicious.

I was about to ask the same question in a I'm about to write.

Anyone eat lobster roe? I'm not the biggest roe fan generally, but the lobster roe I pulled out of one of my bugs looked really bright and tasty.

Re: Lobster Sashimi = Delicious

is it roe or pre roe? I only ask because our bugs hold their roe on the outside under the tail. the stuff in side I was told is roe before it has developed...this was from a random dude on the pier though so i trust it about as much as a mcdonalds ad

True, they definitely store the eggs on their tail once they're fertilized. The eggs I was referring to were internal- I think it's still considered "roe" prior to fertilization, though. That's just semantics, though. The real question is- is it tasty or is it going to make me yack??

In Japan they serve the head as a garnish. See this video...

I slice my lobster down the middle from head to tail and grill them. The stuff in the head cooks as well, and has its own great flavor.

Congrats on your feast!

There's enough meat in the carapace/head to make steaming it worthwhile. Especially in the shoulders, face and antennae knuckles.

Steamed a big pot of 'fronts' with about 4-5 cups water, after they were done, the soup smelled so good, it got strained and ended up making a batch of Top Ramen with it. Delicious!

Nice work on the sashimi! One of the best ways to eat lobster.

Watch with eating any parts of the lobster head. I read that this year they have some sort of toxin in their organs.

Re: Lobster Sashimi = Delicious

If it's not poisonous I'd try it out. Rockfish roe isn't bad broiled with some salt (yellow egg sacs).

Don't go eating cabezon roe though, you'll regret it (I sure did).

You may be thinking of Domoic Acid bio-accumulation.

Once the bug is tailed, rinse the carapace out...most of the guts will wash out. Take a teaspoon and stick it all the way in to the face and turn it. Do this to both sides of the inside face (it's seperated by a septum). Rinse again and you'll get a clear view to the front...all the mustard yellow goo should be rinsed out. If there's still some stubborn goo at the end, you can swish the teaspoon while running water, or push it out the mouth with your index finger. Sniff your finger afterwards

You'll see it clean as a whistle, cook and eat away!
