Ocean Sunfish encounter on Emerald

Jumped on the Emerald for a weekend off land with spearfishing in mind. many large fish were put in the cooler as has already been posted. But the most incredible experience came right up to me, a once in a lifetime encounter. A 7 foot Ocean Sunfish or Mola Mola swam up to me close enough to touch, so i did......... Peter van Berkel was there with his camera and took these pics. i'm still having trouble downloading the rest of them but i couldn't wait to share enjoy, It was a touch of a lifetime, i feel so lucky

i'll keep trying to download the rest, may need some help

With all the jellyfish last weekend, I was thinking the Mola's would be breaching and doing belly flops out there! Cool encounter!!

They are such cool and weird animals. It is like evolution forgot about them.
I had the chance to swim with one right off jupiter inlet last year for about 30 minutes. Their eyes are huge.

They are known to inhabit deep water.

Yeah, I don't recommend it.

Those are nice photos. We have a lot more molas out here than I ever saw in the Atlantic, but ours don't have remoras attached. In fact now I'm trying to recall if I've ever even see a remora out here.

When I was a teenager in St. Pete, I recall shooting jewfish and having their remoras come over and attach to me.

Edit- I just did a search, and it appears that remoras need warmer water. I saw photos from farther south in the Pacific, but its probably just too cold off of SoCal.
