Laguna Conditions 3/2/11; Neptonics bought Aimrite?

First off I will start by saying that I snapped the muzzle of my 100cm Aimrite Carbon right in half! I was changing out the bands and SNAP! I called the company to make a claim and the person who answered said " Hello this is Neptonics". After a small discussion he informed me that he had bought Aimrite Spearguns 3 months ago. Most of you probably know already though.

Now for the report

Dove Moss st. around 2 p.m. during low tide. Small wind and not very much swell (untill I hopped in, then it turn into a washing machine). Vis was a hazy 5 ft with an occasional 10ft patch here and there. Grabbed 3 short bugs. Saw a couple of corbina, none taken. I did come across this weird fish however. It had bright green and black stripes. Maybe one of you guys can identify it? Overall decent dive.

No it wasn't long an slender and the green was a brighter green. Mackeral almost have a blue tinge. It was kind of perch shaped with the mouth of a bass. I'm google-ing as we speak! hahah

It wasn't as fat as rockfish tend to be girthwise. It was slender in girth, but height, vertical wise was kind of like a sargo? It was about 10-12 inches long. Then again it was pretty murky so me description could be a little off.

No definitely not a zebra perch. My gf was with me at the time (on scuba) and saw it as well. It was holed up in a small cave in about 10 feet of water. She was 20 ft looking for lobster and I called her up to show her. She said shes only seen one before and that she'll ask some of her friends who are a little familiar with different types of fish. She works at the California Science Center.

Ok, this is what the body was shaped like. Now just imagine the green being a little lighter with black stripes. I apologize if I was saying green stripes.

Treefish would be my guess:

Edit: Just saw your post above- if it had that body shape then it was definitely a treefish.

Treefish are a type of rockfish found in shallow water and are quite tasty since they are rockfish. A 12" one would have been a nice take they don't often get too big.

BTW, when are you going to get you clothes out of my garage!
I am diving friday and Saturday evening/night for bugs if you have off work.

Yea I wasn't sure if it was legal so I didn't pull the trigger. I know where he lives though!!! HAHA and Josh I have been trying to get a hold of you and you NEVER pick up. A friday night lobster dive sounds good though.
