Yea, I make my own pole spears all the time form .5 aluminum. The packs punch and I think that they are better than the store ones. This one i made with a 14 in power grip, that thing hold its own. It has a good range of 5ft and i can make it into a blue water with an extension. I love it cant wait to get out to test it this spring
