Flat lense question guys

GO PRO.....Instead of ordering a completely new housing I would rather go get a Flat lens from Mako...Now this camera will only be going down to about 30ft at most (freshwater), but the question is....by changing the lens out myself, is it a must to be pressure tested?.... will it flood if I do it myself?.....has anyone changed one out and had any problems?

Sorry thats more than one question...but ya get the drift. I'm just nervous about doing it myself, but it's really not rocket science.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Flat lense question guys

I haven't heard about anyone pressure testing the housing after they changed the lens. I would just say take it out into the water without the camera one time and see if there is any moisture in case and if there is none then it should be fine. Hope this helped

I have the mako lens, but I did not put it in yet. When I do, I will probably just dive with it without testing because I am lazy and like to live on the edge.

I have it. Works Great! Recommend getting the red filter or make one and put it in it. Huge difference underwater and less editing of the colors later. But of course with the filter in you will have a red tint above water which you can alter later in editing.

Oceanlife, nice shot! Way to keep the shaft out of the fillets!

Had no problems installing myself. Take it out stuffed with tissues, you'll know if there's a leak.

Re: Flat lense question guys

I did the Mako replacement. No problems. Just be careful. Use a jeweler's screwdriver to avoid messing up the phillips screw head and reinstall torquing screws opposite.

For piece of mind do a pressure check. No camera on anchor to 60 ft., bottom of pool overnight.

Expect vignetting. Cheap lens roughly constructed (Made in ???). But it works!!
