30 lbs
???? on what scale???? or is that just a generous estamite ???? still quite an accomplishment, with a pole spear....The other pic, did you measure those??? I don't mean to insult you, they just look a little small.... Halibut should be atleast 22 inches Calico Bass should be atleast 12 inches |

So-Cal Spearo: Welcome to SpearBoard! Nice WSB, regardless of it's exact weight. Nice to see you posting here. When it comes to spearfishing, this is a better place to share your catches than So Cal Diving News! Like most of the scuba industry in Southern California, they are biased against spearfishing. So unless you want to share a photo of (yet another) nudibranch
with them, post here. You'll be received in a more fair and sportsmanlike manner.Guys, it was comically sad to see the way this young fella was critisized in that publication when he wrote in a couple of months ago to share his catch of a WSB with a pole spear! The Editor half-heartedly congratulated the kid and then proceeded to lecture him about how irresponsible it is to attempt to take WSB with a pole spear and that he was fishing too close to Heisler Park (a protected area). In the next months issue, some pinhead proffessor/scuba diver came out of the woodwork and in his letter to the Editor basically accused the boy or his parent of lying; "it's impossible to land a WSB with a pole spear." |

They'd be in for a surprise if they saw what some of the Hawaiians here get. I think the professor and ole Mr. Sheckler would be publishing an apology if they actually got out and tried it and saw what people are capable of.

That kid is my friend and sometimes he tells fish stories bigger than that sea bass he actually landed it. What ever the f**ck they say I have seen the close up shots right at the beach. The kid is pretty cool too.

SoCal Spearo, I saw your WSB pic in So Cal Diving News too. Nice fish, esp with a polespear. However, I agree with Carraig: I'd avoid submitting anything spearfishing related to that tree-hugging commercial rag. I also highly recommend that you remove that second pic. Kayakspearo is right. There are anti-spearfishing trolls who look for pictures like that.

So- Cal Nice fish !!! There are people on this board that have not shot a WSB yet let alone with a pole spear. Keep up the good work.

Guys, I was just wondering though... isn't there an age dispensation when it comes to size limits? I know it may not make much sense, but it seems to me I read or heard that somewhere. |

Hey,
yeah someone at a dive shot just told me to send it in to them... I will definetly start posting here from now on :-) I measured the halibut and he was 24" so no worried there! i think it was just the rigormortis (probably didnt spell it right)setting in so he looked smaller... the calico was 13" too!! I have a picture of me at the beach with the white sea bass onj my little disposable camera that i havent got developed but whan i do i will send it in to california diving news to prove it to that professor. Thanks for all your nice comments everywhere else i posted this pic all i got was insults and critisism! |

The size limits are the same no matter how old you are, but you don't need licsense if you are under 16. Nice WSB though.
In every California Diving News there are dive spot reports/descriptions. It always seems that the hunting at each spot is described as being crappy or something like it. |
