Another useless fact

Approximately 75% of people that were in an accident AND were tested for drugs, showed positive for marijuana.

I saw that on a tv commercial, so it must be true.

I'm wondering what that stat means. 75% of the people that were both in an accident and tested for drugs tested positive for marijuana. Not everyone in an accident is tested for drugs, so what was the basis for testing the people that WERE? And were those people also tested for alcohol, and what was the corresponding percentage for it?

If everyone was tested that was in an accident where drugs or alcohol were suspected, I'd have a hard time believing that 75% of those accidents involved pot. Without knowing the real #'s, my guess is that is very close to the proportion where alcohol was involved, and I can't imagine any drug coming even close to being implicated in as many accidents as alcohol. Alcohol is just too much cheaper and easier to get. That's just my hunch, though.

Now I'm not agreeing or disagreeing; I'm just saying that what you've shared of that stat doesn't tell me anything.
I also don't mean to suggest that marijuana is a better alternative, (except that hey, it's damn hard to OD from it). For the record, I don't think marijuana is any WORSE than alcohol, either.

Does anybody like to smoke sargassum? I'm selling quarter ounces of "Middlegrounds Amber" for $50. I hear that the little gas filled nodes that keep the sargassum afloat will get you majorly ripped!

The only thing the stat on marijuana in the sytem of those in an accident says is that people smoke marijuana. It stays in your urine for at least a month, unlike alcohol, which is gone within hours.

Just because you have THC in your urine does not mean you are high and that it had any influence whatsoever on anything. Alcohol is a different story as there are measurable differences in your reflexes etc. when you register positive on a breathalizer.

God made pot and man made beer...who do you trust more??? Not that I've been to church in ten years

speaking of sargasso. i've got a "weed" line story to tell that happened a few years ago down in the keys. me and my friend nick went down to long key with his dad and step mom like we do every year and headed offshore to do some dolphin trolling. we were working this nice weed line for a while when we noticed a big peice of junk in the middle of it. we didn't pay too much attention to it but made sure our lures skipped right next to it. sure enough a 20lb cow hit. we fought her and went right back to look for the bull. as we started getting closer we all started saying how it looked really similar to a bail of jamaicas' finest. sure enough as we approached it was 24 individually wrapped in celophane, then wrapped together and put in an old onion sack. it looks like the boat had missed one of the drops and it was heading toward miami via gulf stream at 7 knots. nicks dad said, "well boys that's what you call a square grouper." we let it float but i'm sure someone that day went home with a cooler full of pot instead of dolphin.

"I'm wondering what that stat means."
Me too.
"I saw that on a tv commercial, so it must be true."
That explains it all......

Pretty much anytime someone goes to the hospital, they do a toxicology report. That stat probably comes from all of the people brought in that had been in an accident. ....Then again, they might have just made it all up. It was an anti-marijuana commercial after all & they're gonna make it sound as bad as possible.
It's kinda like when you hear about something that causes cancer in lab rats. They just don't tell you that they had to inject the rat with 10,000 times the normal dose every day for 10 years before they found the cancer...

I say live on the edge. Grab a beer, spark up a fatty, eat 3 or 4 pain killers, & operate heavy equipment around power lines!

My $.02...

All those commercials are doing is instilling a sense of mistrust in the goverment. Most teenagers are smart enough to know that pot isn't a dangerous drug. The only thing the commericials are teaching is that the government lies. Sad...

Legalize Pot?

I'd legalize pot and coke if it were up to me. Crack no, due to its addictive nature and delivery method. Even more hypocritical is that once you grow up and get real jobs (the point in life when your are "expected to" give up the dope), you have the contacts and the $$ to go to a good doctor an have him give you a script' for what is either nearly as good, or sometimes much better. Ever wonder how many of those ladies in MADD going nuts about drinking and pot use power down the Valium, Prozac and others? Even so, when i have kids, I'll #$%^&* kill the punk who gives them their first dope (Like if I'll have a chance in hell of finding out who).

P.S. I gave it up when I found my wive. But, not too very long ago, someone slipped me a Marinol(sp) pill (synthetic Marjuana for cancer patients) and thought it was a joke. They say it is 60x stronger than a joint. They are understating it!!!!!! Given the high, it was hard to be pissed a the guy for too long.

So,given that they can already process THC into a pill, it wouldn't be too hard to legalize it, tax it, have Johnson and Johnson an/or Phizer sell it --and everybody would be happy. Hell, I'd load up on the pharm stocks even more. It could just turn around the NASDQ. I'd rather my 401K get the return than the Columbians/ Mexicans and others.

Jim Breuer had a great routine a few years ago about the subject. Jim Breuer - from SNL, I think he was in Half-Baked, and that's exactly what he looks like 24/7.

Anyway, he was like, you know, you never see the police having a problem with a pothead. Crackhead, yes, pothead, never. When they try to arrest a crackhead, he goes nuts, breaks things, tries to run away. When they try to arrest a pothead, it goes like this:

"Hey you, c'mere!!!!"

"Uuuuh, alright."
