Re: New world record striped bass

Congrats! Nice fish. He is just lucky that we can't spear striper's in California. We have world record ones here in a couple of our lakes that exceed 70#. The 50# and 60# are caught (h&L) on a a regular bases. We just can't spear them, damn it.

Re: New world record striped bass

Congratulations Les.

Les is the real deal. He does it all- wahoo and tuna in the Gulf as well as big stripers in fresh.

And a couple of years ago he came out to try the white sea bass thing on my boat and got one of those too.

Was it actually in beaver lake? Also, just curious: was it freediving or scuba?

Re: New world record striped bass

I am curious what makes that a world record - not discounting the fish or the accomplishment - huge fish and a heck of an accomplishment - congrats.

But, I am sure the east coast guys have speared lots of fish over 35.

I believe you are referring to the SW Striper, this is WR for fresh water Striper, hence it is posted in the FW section. The IUSA and other record databases recently seperated Striper into SW and FW records.

That is a big striper for FW spearing, but I am sure it won't last too long

Aloha,
Chad

Cool didn't know they split them - like I said not discounting the fish - heck of a striper fresh or salt.

Hey Steve,
Are you talking about this little guy?

If I remember correctly it weighed around 65lbs.

Yep, Stripers--east or west coast or freshwater--are all the same species. They are naturally salt water fish, native to the Atlantic coast. But, like salmon, they swim into freshwater to spawn so people have introduced them to lots of lakes, as well as the west coast, where they have done really well.
