PCB Flounder Tournament

The Dive Locker Is putting on their annual tournament October 30. I would like to encourage any Spearboarders to participate. The biggest Flounder last year was only 4#s, with more than 200 entrants. I know I can do better than that! Categories are biggest flounder and heaviest stringer of 5. A flounder can only be entered in one category. Guys shooting on the same boat may pool their flounder for the heavy stringer category. Heres the catch, they must all be taken while on SCUBA. The tournament is to begin at 0001 Saturday the 30, I think all waters are open as long as you make the weigh in, must be in line by 1800 (Central) at the Dive Locker. I will be a good time. All you guys in Tally are within easy striking distance. I will try to have the forms and full rules posted here later in the week. if there are any questions please call the Dive Locker 850-230-8006.

If anyone can help me I have the files in PDF format and am unsure of how to get them here so they can be downloaded.

Sounds like fun, but I can't even say that I've even seen a flounder in the water. I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.

PMG, thanks for the "heads up"...I've been out of town the past few weekends and this upcoming tourney looks like a great opportunity to get wet! Did you get a chance to get out this past weekend? If so, how's the viz? Water temp?

We should be hunting that weekend. Saturday is our normal day, so it's possible I may both be down there and on the right day. Won't know until early next week for sure.

I'll post a full report later, but vis was 20-25 once you got below the surface layer. There was that chopped up jelly fish sting going on and some sort of spoogey snot particles present. The water was all in all that nice eerie green that I am used to. 10' feet from the bottom the vis drops down to about 7-10', perfect ambush vis. I was on Span 9 and the Accokeek. I am told the vis was worse inshore with the same bottom murk.
Undertow, they migrate to channels from their shallow water homes, when it starts to get cold, to mate. They will soon be everywhere stacked on top of eachother. I am going to see if I can get 4 at once this season. My record is 3.

Hey PMG what's your weapon of choice? Polespear or something custom?

I took a 1/2 aluminum rod and machined me a barb on the end, and attached about six feet of 3/16 cable with a stop on the end.(built-in stringer)
All I got to do is nail 'em and slide 'em up the line. Makes for alot more hunting time.

My best is three at one time and eight without ever moving! When the waters start to warm up here they stack up like cord wood on the local wrecks.

Hey pmg! Sorry I couldn't go out there with you this past weekend. Any chance for a raincheck? My schedule has been messed up, trying to catch up with school and work. It's been several months since I got wet, at least for the fun of it. Been plenty wet and cold, though, all involuntarily. I'll tell you all about it the next time we meet up.

yep....

i have used my loaded gun as a spear to stab em. Fredt tells stories of people stabbing a flounder and a nice sized grouper coming to see what all the fuss is about only to be shot THROUGH the impaled flounder!

seems to me if you were free shafting a spare shaft would make a good flounder impaler, leaving the gun loaded for other action.

Looks like it is finally time for me to live up to my birth name. Though I am still quite new to the killing game, I feel that tha training that I have received from you, along with the fact the blood that flows through my vanes is pumped by a heart of murderis will. shall prove that... I don't know exactlly where all that was headed but I am really looking forwared to pertisipating in such an event and meeting other divers in the community. Each time I go out diving I come back more and more educated in the ways of the force. I can't thank you enough Pat, for introducing me to such a new world.

I really wish I could make it for the tournament. I guess I'll just have to stay up here and deal with the snow all weekend. Sucks to be me.
