Anyone dive with a camelback?

Hey everyone,

I get really thirsty out in the water after a few hours. Sooooo, I was wondering if anyone dives with a camelback or something similar. I know that those seasoft vests have a spot for a bladder but I haven't heard of anyone using them.

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

if you had a banks board you could store some water in the hatch.

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

Have seem people dive with Tubby and it looks like a green camel bump ball attached to their back.

Assuming you are shore diving without a boat, kayak, or board to stash a drink it seems like the small packs could work. There are no visible pouches to collect air. Perhaps pull some water and purge some before swallowing to make sure salt water is not in the drink tube...

What about having a custom pouch sewed into a wetsuit? This would be for shorediving.

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

There are a couple of company's that have hydration bladders that are designed with scuba diver's in mind. Here are a couple of sites:

I am sure you could also use a CamelBack.

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

Any camel back will work and no salt water will enter as long as you purge the air out of the blader before getting in . Water is not compressable so there is no need for it to be built to handle the pressure .

I know people that wear one on scuba, I don't see why a slim back wouldn't work for free diving.

I once dove with a girl in Mexico who had a camel toe in her bikini, and at 30 feet it was REALLY looking good!

Yeah but were you able to drink from it?

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

I know a guy who makes floats with straps on them that you can clip a water bottle to :-) . Or maybe consider buying a couple of Capri Sun drink pouches. You could probably just tuck one of those into your suit until you wanted it, and not have the limited mobility/increased drag/entanglement challenges of a camel back.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing....

As for the Seasoft harness, I have 22lb. of lead in mine, so there isn't a whole lot of room for a water bladder inside.

However, I always keep a 1/2 liter Nalgene bottle clipped to my Banks board for when I get thirsty shore diving

That's what I do if it's gonna be a long day away from the boat.
They make them with less sugar now. Pop it open with your dive knife and

Re: Anyone dive with a camelback?

Thanks for all of the ideas. Too bad you can't use a board in thick kelp, a standard water bottle would be pretty convenient. I am liking the juice box idea but may try a standard camelback to test it out.

What are you talking about? In NorCal, we use ab board's and the Bank's Board to glide right over thick kelp. Of course, you have to be on top of the board to go through the kelp, but you can use it to get into the middle of bed and just dive where ever in the general area and when you are ready to move, just get back up on the board and move.
