Nearshore Hermosa Beach action?
Just got back from a bike ride and saw a large collection of fishing boats--half day and private boats. Anybody have an idea what they are after? They are swarming just off the Hermosa Pier and a little south.

Fishing In Redondo Beach
"More to Sea" Wow!!!!!!! And I do mean Wow!! We struck it rich on Saturday. That is how the latest edition of Highliner News started. Our charterboat Highliner really got into the white sea bass last Saturday putting 30 of the big brutes on deck. They found a huge school of fish near the harbor. The fish were nice ones too. Charlie Williams started it off with 43 pound fish caught before sunrise. Dave Marsden got one that was 58 pounds. Andy Baldwin was not too far behind with a 57 pounder. The "small" ones were in the 25 pound range. With live squid for bait we were able to finally get them to bite. The fish have been around for quite some time, we now have the candy bait that they can't seem to resist. The Highliner followed up with another 5big sea bass on Sunday. The half day boat Redondo Special caught the first sea bass on Tuesday. On Saturday they caught 10 of the huge fish. They have also been plugging away at the bass. The Tradition had fantastic fishing on the white sea bass over the weekend. On Saturday, they caught 15 white sea bass from 25 to over 50 pounds. On Sunday, they had 2 more white sea bass and a halibut. The biggest sea bass weighed in at 55 pounds, 4 ounces! On top of that the calico bass and sheephead fishing was excellent. The Tradition is on line daily for 3/4 day trips leaving at 6am. We will also be starting twilight trips on Friday and Saturday nights leaving at 6pm. Our charterboat Slammer really did slam them too. Captain David has been getting his share of the croakers. On Saturday his four anglers caught 5 croakers. They also did a twilight trip which produced another 6 white sea bass. They caught one more on Sunday. The influx of the big sea bass has taken the spotlight from the other fish that have also started biting. The calico bass, sand bass, and barracuda are playing second fiddle at the moment as we have been focusing on the big fish. All in all the surface action has picked up at a pace that we have not seen in a couple years. We are into the season full speed. Also getting in on the action are the private boats launching from Redondo Beach Marina boat hoist. A 49 lb. Halibut caught by Rob Steed from Gardena. Get in on the fishing action by booking individual trips or chartering a boat by calling Redondo Beach Sportfishing at 310 372-2111. This coming weekend we celebrate the Fourth of July. In addition to the various on the water activities we also have our annual fireworks show. We will be one of the few remaining venues offering a free fireworks display. Make plans to join us on a family oriented day and night. All of our restaurants will be at full staff in order to serve you and your family. Boat rides on the Voyager , Looking Glass pedal boats and kayaks will be in full operation all weekend. Thank you for visiting the Redondo Beach Marina. Please tell your friends and family about us.
