WKND RPT: Ensenada / Todos

Ran down to Ensenada with Joe N and Scott D. This trip was special to us as one of our favorite panguero's from the Sea Of Cortez was driving up and wanted to meet up with us to fish and dive, he was also brining his son Daniel'lito. He was in town to set his daughter up for her first year in College, she's going to become a doctor. We were excited to see the whole family as over the years we've all become family.

Early morning drive down to meet Louie from 'Its for Reels' Sport fishing. He has a sweet set up and caters to divers as well. His boat is rigged for comfort. He also owns a sports bar where we took our catch, had it cooked and ate with our favorite family (No pics of dinner).

Approach: To shoot either whites or yellows.
Reality: Wind picked up, water was FREEZING and there was no one home.
Outcome: Each dive spot had to be preciously positioned out of the wind. Ended up w/ Calicos, sheephead, and good times.

Calico hunting was a fun alternative, they were elusive and hard to hunt when we found the great viz. Pics can be deceiving we found some toad calicos out there.

Made it back to the OC by 11pm. A great day!

Pic 4: While at spot two a local boat came up to the crew on our boat (Daniel, Daniel'lito, and our captian) asking for cigarettes. We took a pic of their catch (Gotta make a buck I guess)

Daniel'lito at the helm

Its not the Sea of cortez 90deg, theres no Marlin or Dodos in town

Looks like you got the ugly weather trip out of the way. Next trip will be perfect weather and conditions, I'm sure. Those calico look great and are a lot of fun in my opinion.

Yes, I hope that was our only Ugly trip for the year. The calico hunting was fun, it was a bit of a challenge with some of the good viz we found as they then spooked easy.

The sharks looked to be a mixture of makos and blues. The panga guys said they were long line fishing for them.

Nice report, bummer about the water. Thankfully there is the fish market.
Just wondering, what did the boat cost you to get out? I'm down there once a week and might start bringing my gear along for the ride..when it warms up of course.

We did hit Punta Banda, thats were we found the best viz and the biggest calicos and sheep. Unfortunately we found the coldest and I mean coldest water there. Best viz however, reminded me of Clemente when we swam in the kelp and the nados when in open water. Its like Jurasic Park out there. Great place!
