Neah bay report with video
My brother, sam and I all headed out to neah bay yesterday, unfortunately the first time we were all able to go together all summer, my bro has been busy. We got there kinda late because of car issues but the water was clear and it was nice and sunny. Swell was pretty big actually, but other than launching the boat it didnt cause any problems. Vis was great when we first got in, 25' or so, but it deteriorated to about 10-15 after a couple hours. My brother got a couple lings and some rockfish on the fly rod, while sam and I dove. Sam got a fat rockfish and a ling, and I got just a rockfish. Saw some Lings but they all looked right around 24". Super fun day, and we took some video and put together a few clips of fun times throughout the day. My brother actually fell off the boat setting the hook on a rockfish, but still landed the fish. Unfortunately we didnt get it on video but it was hilarious.

Thanks Pete. Great video. I can't get enough of underwater scenery. What pole spear are you using?

Re: Neah bay report with video
Thanks guys, its actually my friend sam who was nailin the fish with the 3 prong, it's a ray odor spear with some cheap 3 prong head. I use a gat-ku pole spear with slip tip and it is awesome too. My bro was fishing a sinking line and getting the lings close to the bottom but getting rockfish just a foot or two under the surface. the water was really clear and it was awesome to watch black rockfish hit his fly. Hopefully we will get out there again this weekend and get some more video action before I head back to Santa Barbara.

Re: Neah bay report with video
Not to pull too far off from topic, but what was the fly your friend was using? Was it a shrimp look-a-like or a clouser or some kind?
By the way, I've never dove with that kind of visibility. The best I've ever had was 20' in fresh water and 15' in salt... I need to get up to the Sound and do some diving... |
