The usual team of Dan, Harold and Paul took first. The big surprise was the Monterey Bay Tritons team taking second, missing first by less than 2 points and qualifying for Nationals! Brian Gross shot the big fish, a 15.5 pound ling. Way to go, guys!

Re: Cen Cal Qualification Tourney Update?

This was a great event and our team did an outstanding job, thanks Alex and Chris. I shot my PB ling at 15.5 pounds and conditions could not have been better. Thanks for taking all the pics Nikki. Just a hair over 1 point away from first place but it still feels great to do so good with all the work we put in on this event.

Not a surprise in the least...
Based on the preparation and dedicated effort that the Tritons put in... several of the competitors (myself included) were convinced that the Triton team was favored to win!

As the tourney began, our team worked hard, steadily getting our pieces.
No huge lings, but a lot of solid fish.
When 3pm hit, the competitors returned to the beach and everyone got a preview of each others' catches.
My earlier suspicions were confirmed... with a handful of nice lings and full stringers... Alex, Brian, & Chris had laid a collective smack-down on us.

Doing a quick survey of their stringers, I surmised that we were behind and conceded defeat.
Relaying the bad news to my team, we wondered if we were still in running for 2nd place.

Fortunately I can't count -or- estimate weights very well.
The race ended up a lot closer than expected and we somehow eeked out a win.
With only one point of difference, it was a fair amount of luck as it could've swung either way pretty easily.

Everyone was very impressed with the Triton performance!
Great representation and my utmost respect for putting together a great game plan... and executing it well.

Side notes:

Haussler told me once about a fish he shot at the end of a day in Worlds... diving to the very end.
I've kept that story in my mind & always strive to hustle till the bitter end of every competition.
This weekend, I was able to shoot a couple fish in the last half hour that made the difference.
Thanks for being an inspiration Dennis.

Young gun Rick kicked some major butt, diving with Paul V. & Bob H.
He had a hefty stringer that placed him in front of some veteran Cencal divers.
In addition, he shot a beatiful SIX POUND vermillion that any diver would be absolutely stoked with!
I've heard so many people talk about how he's gonna become a great diver... screw that, he already is!
Scrappy, tenacious, & quick to learn/adapt.
Congrats Rick!
Save some fish for me!

Great pictures Nikki!
So wiped out from diving to take pics, so it's awesome to have those memories in time captured.
Thank you!

Re: Cen Cal Qualification Tourney Update?

The packed coolers...anticipation of the weigh-in...arms shaking under the load of 50# stringers...it was awesome to see.

Looking forward to cheering on Team Addiction and the Cencal teams at the 2012 Nationals.
