New Riffe Comp.4 yesterday...trying it tomorrow...
...hopefully anyway if the conditions are permitting. I can't wait, it's been a couple of months since I've been out since we had a rough hurricane season this year. I still need a new roof, but not as much as I need that insurance check! Anyway, I'll post the results of tomorrows trip out - hopefully we'll release the blood pressure of some nice fish!
Earlier tonight was the monthly Palm Beach Freedivers club meeting. Met five more local spearos, hopefully we'll get to do some diving. Looks like we may have another club tournament Saturday Nov.13th out of Palm Bch. It's not final but that's what it's looking like so far. |

Say hi, to all my old club members. I dove for WPB in the 1999 nationals.

The day was pretty good considering it's been real tough getting out lately or crappy vis. You could just make out the bottom from the surface at 70' or so in most places. In the 50' range there seemed to be a lot of sediment in the water but clear vis to the bottom once you went down about 10' or so. The boat came home with a nice Gag, 4 Hogs, a bunch of various good sized snappers and 4 Barracuda (we had a guy that wanted the Cudas, we normally don't shoot them). I was having some sinus issues but was still able to dive to a point. But it was frustrating as I'd have to stop my decent early and as the day went on I could only go shallower. Still, had a great time - of the 3 of us I am the least experienced but shot one of the Hogs in about 50' of water and one of the Cuda's in about 60'. I shot the Cuda from a good distance in front of me and the spear completely penetrated - I was thrilled at the performance of my new Riffe. I'm not used to that much power and range...not to mention it was much more quiet than my Rabitech when fired.

There were enough bigh Barracudas around we could have easily filled the boat, but 4 big ones was plenty.

Yeah I nevr have figured out why WPB has so many Cuda? There should be less knowing WPB fredivers have them as a target fish in tourneys.
