Sea Hornet question
I have a really nice sea hornet huntsman 1200.It is a huge gun.The shaft is 5/16,heavy,and very long.I would like to increase the speed by either buying a slimmer shaft or cutting the gun down and getting a shorter shaft.I already replaced one of the 5/8 bands with one that's 3/4,and I still was not impressed. How would I modify the muzzle with the slide ring and a slimmer shaft?Just cut it and make it an open muzzle?I believe AB biller shafts are interchangeable.Any suggestions?

Re: Sea Hornet question
Talk to headhunter on here. I believe he shoots sea hornet and consistently lands trophy fish. I think he only uses one band also..

[QUOTE I have a really nice sea hornet huntsman 1200. The shaft is 5/16,heavy,and very long.I would like to increase the speed by either buying a slimmer shaft or cutting the gun down and getting a shorter shaft]
Whats the lenght of the spear? Freeshaft or Lineshaft? If a line shaft, describe the tip... Whats the distance between the muzzle hole for the band and the notch on the spear you're loading it to? How long and what diameter is your band? Answer these questions and I'm sure either myself or kevin can help you. Heres a few tips....shortening up the gun and/or spear will not help with speed, it'll slow it down in most cases. To pick up speed you gotta either drop drag...slimmer spear , smaller more streamlined tip, or pack on more power which means shorter/thicker bands or more of them. Or you can do both, drop drag and add more power. For a Seahornet, I'm not a big 3/4 band guy...you usually have to make the band quite a bit longer than a 5/8 and thus the band doesn't pull as far when released....nowhere near as smooth and it really limits what you can do compared to a couple of 5/8 bands. Nobody would ever put two 3/4 bands on a hornet. Send the paticulars and I'll try and help you.

Re: Sea Hornet question
The length of the spear is 63".I have a lineshaft connected to mono, and the tip is a double flopper screw in type. The distance from muzzle hole to first notch on spear is 45".It had two 5/8" thick bands that are 30" long, but I switched one to 3/4",but still not as fast as I would like.

Re: Sea Hornet question
I'd probably go with a 24/26 inch set of 5/8 bands, or a set of 26/26 set of 5/8 bands if the 24/26 combination is too stout.
Your shaft is probably a 5/16 (8mm). Consider going to either a 7.5 mm shaft (my fav) or going to a dual flopper "Hybrid" style 5/16 line shaft. Ocean Rhino (727-548-7686) sells these and if you can live without a spinner tip, they work really well. Your current dual flopper tip is heavy and really affects the performance of the gun. Not saying it won't work, but that heavy shaft, heavy tip, ringslide and line all really slow the shaft down. Try this, get a set of 26/26 bands (5/8), take the tip off and practice shoot the gun, see how you like that level of performance. If you're satisfied with the speed, put the tip back on and see if you're still satisfied,if so, great! if not, try a Hybrid style shaft. If the 5/16 Hybrid shaft still isn't fast enough, then you'll need to try a 7.5mm shaft, but I'd try the 5/16 options first. You really can't power up a Seahornet that size much past the 24/26 band set. The trigger isn't designed for that type of load. Hope this has helped a little, any more questions, just ask. Dan

Did you ever notice that the quality of advice on Spearboard is inversely proportional to the weather?

Re: Sea Hornet question
Jim..I agree with that, it's hard to give advice when you're 100 miles out!

Re: Sea Hornet question
Thanks Headhunter for the really good advice.I'm going to shorten up my bands, and go fishing this weekend.I would like to get one of those shafts, but $75 is a little steep.I'll be on the lookout for one on ebay or on the members item section.
