woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer...

woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer... and here's the first round just to play with. got some ideas for a new concept that would be a blast to carry around while looking for bugs (and fit within DFG guidelines for hooked device)... coming soon. Til then, what do ya'll think? short one is 15" w/ a 7mm shaft. Longer one is 18" with a 9/32"

might as well put a fish pic in here as well

nice man they look good. really fun to use too! i recommend putting a little loop around the handle, kinda like on divelights, that way when youre opening your bag you can just slang it over your wrist

Good looking Ryan but I think they can still nail you for hooked device BS.

Make that a slip tip and lose the handle. Then it should be ok, in my humble opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if you have to fight a ticket now and then with the reg being far from clear and interpretations vary all over the place.

Re: woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer...

the bodj... it does have a hole drilled in the handle so a lanyard can be attached.

Zen- yeah... this one was a spur of the moment idea and the shafts I could get were already hardened steel. Next round will be more DFG compliant with a couple other little adjustments that should work really well.

benthosslayer- I know a couple Mike J's... is his last name Johnson and him/I used to race supermoto together? If so tell him i say hello. It's been years. small world

I think they can get you for the "Hooked Device" infraction on the floppers you have on those shafts as well

Re: woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer...

yeah... a flopper can definitely be considered a "hook". This round of prototypes should not be used while lobster diving. but they're dang fun to play with regardless.

I'm thinking about one of those. I wonder if you can get a 25# Hali with that. The other day a friend was looking for bugs and saw 25 pounder in the sand channel. All he could do was to stare at her.

Re: woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer...

That's a big but! And I wouldn't doubt it, gotta just man up and feed it the steel! I take my hammer bug diving. If I see a dfg ill drop it, but I usually have fish in my bag too, that I got with the hammer. That and the fact that I rarely get bugs, so usually its just fish in my bag. Makes it just like night diving for fish only

Thread the shaft and put a 3 or 5 prong on there!

They work much better than a flopper.

ding ding ding ... or a slip tip. i have a pole spear set up with a slip tip that is a lot of fun. either way, the threaded shaft is the ticket. Then people can run whatever tip they want.

Re: woke up yesterday with some motivation for a Hali-Hammer...

Hah good idea! I completely spaced on that though. With the flopper its hard sometimes to get fish that aren't fully against a wall or the sand, so a paralyzer would be much better

not a paralyzer.... a trident 5 prong

They don't even move! If you hit them in the head its game over.
