Re: GoPro Flat Lens...
The Mako flat lens has already been mentioned.
Here is one that uses 55mm camera filters - http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=136987 Or you could build your own using a "a medicine bottle cap, bored a hole and aquasealed the whole thing together with a 52mm UV photog glass filter. Took me 30mins to make and unlike the "eye of mine", this retains the stock lens" - http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=137370 You can also use the search function....

Yes, they have been saying it for a while and they had proto-types at the recent dive show, but i would not hold my breath, waiting for their lens.

+1 for blurfix.
Another flat lens is next on the list. I had the "eye of mine" modified case for my gopro. Worked great but if you scratch the lens its toast. Lost that camera before I could break it. I'm not easy on my gear and the replaceable glass lens on the blurfix looks nice. |

Re: GoPro Flat Lens...
NWsportsman, one of the things I do is surf photography (www.joshhumbert.com) so I have plenty of experience with lenses and scratches. If your lens is plastic like on waterhousings, you can buff it out with a buffing wheel, some buffing polish and lot's of patience. You can't let the plastic heat up, that's the only thing you really have to look out for. If your lens is made of glass, I've heard that cerium oxide works but have not needed to test it myself.

Re: GoPro Flat Lens...
Awesome pics josh.
Thanks for the tip. I do use plastic polish to extend the life of the lens but some scratches are just too deep. And that's what I love about the gopro, it has replaceable lenses. And its cheep around $10 for three. I get most of my scratches from pool bottoms trying to get first person footage of underwater hockey. The results are okay with the stock lens. The best footage came from being out of play along side an in water ref with the flat lens. The big difference between the "eye of mine" flat lens and the blurfix is a removable flat glass filter over the stock lens. I felt I needed to baby the "eye of mine" case. In fear of scratching the acrylic lens. But it did work nice. |

Re: GoPro Flat Lens...
Thanks Max.
Much appreciated feedback.Nwsm: If you are ever up in PDX, I would be glad to give your scratched lenses a try. My buffing wheel works wonders. Underwater hockey sounds like amazing practice for spearing!
