Why does it cost an extra $10 to bring a kayak?

I'd have to wager that the guys doing a Kayak Dive will have the best shot at winning most of the prizes. There are also a few Kayak specific prizes - Some prizes go in excess of 400 dollars.

I'd gladly pay 20 bucks to have a good shot at winning ANY of the prizes - Let alone a NIB Oceanic dive computer! And afterall, the entrance fees will be considered "club" donations - It's FOR the club.

We have alot of very young participants and prospective junior members - We want them to compete in our league and to be under our supervision somewhat - Part of the crew. MOst of the young guys don't have kayaks, and because of age many have fairly limited resources for money - It's only fair to charge a kayak diver more than a shore diver for the same prize table winnings since most probably the kayak divers will "own" the shore divers - like last time!

We're talking a measly 20 dollar bill here for Kayak divers - for a chance at some terrific stuff vs 10 bucks for shore divers - We are Non Profit - ALL FUNDS go to benefit the club. I know more than a few people will pay many times more MORE than the asked entrance fee just to benefit the club -

If someone is just too dang broke who wants to compete we will find a way to come up with thier entrance fees on a limited basis in the future. We want the club to grow - But we also want to build a community at the same time. Good deeds reap good karma.

Re: 2012 TCSD Yak Attack and Shore Dive Tourney

Hey Dan, don't forget about Archies as well. That place might work a little better due to the outside seating. MM seems a little "stuffy" at times, but what do I know. Also, just to put it out there, 4-16+" sheepshead are worth more than a 40+" Cobia? Seems a little off. Also, with the limit of sheepshead and the abundance of them right now, what's stopping everyone from harvesting a ton of sheeps, or is that just the way it is? I see that only the top 3 fish will be measured, why not have a limit of 3-5 fish total per diver?
Just a thought

February 11th for the Tourney - Pepper Park https://www.facebook.com/events/292171880831978/

Jan 28th for our inaugural club meeting - at Cobb's Landing on the round-about at the Fort Pierce City Marina. https://www.facebook.com/events/115412765246926/

Cameron Kirconnell will be a guest speaker at the inaugural and will be putting on a presentation/seminar for us! A small donation will be asked of people attending who are not wishing to become a TCSD member at this time. Many famous faces in the East Coast spearfishing community will be there!

Yes but with only 3 fish measured it's not possible then for the sheeps to beat a cobia - Also you can harvest all you want - But I do not want our club events to be construed as shooting fish for the sake of shooting fish or for prizes. 3 fish is plenty to measure and keep track of right now. And besides no matter the rule - if followed, everyone is on a more or less even plane. Sometimes strategy is trumps over numbers!

Hope to see ya!

PS - In case you did not see below, we will be at Cobb's Landing at the Fort Pierce City Marina for our Inaugural Meeting on the 28th!

It is an OPEN tourney for prizes - Anyone is welcome providing they are freediving from shore or a kayak - It is a singles event but it is recommended people go out in pairs or more. The contest and fishing will begin in the water at Pepper Park. You can go by kayak or fin wherever you want but you must land ashore back at Pepper Park north of the inlet. Waivers available in the link for the tourney. Payment/donation for entrance fee is paid the day of the event, at said event.

A tournament and group that promotes a solo free diving event is reckless and dangerous. No one should ever free dive solo.

Please stop...spearfishing and freediving does not have to be a group activity. In fact, I along with many others enjoy the serene experience of diving alone. We know the risks. If you don't feel comfortable out there by yourself thats fine but don't make blanket statements like "no one should freedive solo."

I agree this group is extremely reckless and dangerous. If any of you out there are contemplating diving off the beach without holding another divers hand, please think twice. If you do decide to risk participating in this tournament, make sure you take at least one partner and preferably link yourselves together with a 20' (max dive depth off the beach) lanyard tied to each divers weight belt.
