spearing lakes near san antonio

hi everyone!
I'm new to this board and sport, and was wondering if anyone has gone out spearing this year in the lakes near san antonio like medina or canyon lake? what was the temp and visibility like? Still wetsuit temps? Im planning on going out in about 3 weeks and just wanted to see what the conditions were like and if you have any tips for pole spearing these lakes that would be greatly appreciated too.

Hey man, later on whenever the vis at the gulf in bad, the lakes are a good way to 'ease' the trigger finger. I personally like Lake Amistad, in Del Rio Tx. It is far but the shore dives are non stop shooting. Do you want to drive down to Port A this weekend?
Cheers, Kerry.

~~ Any one?

I honestly haven't picked up my equipment yet and since its easter weekend i don't think I'm going to be too far from home. i haven't been to lake amistad so i will have to check it out. Im trying to decide if i want to pay 300 for my open water cert, or get a wetsuit and polespear to get in the water and get the class next paycheck. decisions decisions decisions. But i would defiantly like to go to port a sometime.

~~~ Hey man forget the pole spear, you can use my gear. Spearing in Canyon Lake is interesting near the Dam, North park precisely. You can't just drive into North Park anymore, but you can enter the water at the fence line by driving into Jacobs Creek,parking, then walking towards the Dam.
Lots of caves in the wall below the water line as you swim to the Dam.
I'm totally going to try that slingshaft. They tried to charge me like 13 bucks to use North Park for an afternoon! So instead, I used a public boatramp (till I got bitched at by a cop for swimming near a completely empty boat dock). I did kyak over to the military base park and scared up a huge carp. Visibility was just too crappy to see the fish till you are on top of them.
