Socal Freediving Group: Weekly Training Sessions.

Hey guys,

We're trying to set up some weekly training sessions in LA. Right now we're looking at Dynamic training tue & thur at 11am @ Plunge pool in Culver City and possibly a sat session at someone's house for statics.

It's a great way to get fit, increase your breathhold and not go mad when the weather is crappy. We also learn a lot about finding our limits, everyone is spotted with a safety diver and it's a good introduction to a lot of principles one would cover in a Freediving course.

If you're interested on just want to stay in the loop please send me a PM or look at the Southern California Freedivers Group for more info.

SpearMax: Not sure if the link is against the rules of SB but if so please send me a PM and I'll take the link down.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I'll exactly be training anyone but it would be nice to get a regular thing going here. Thus far it's been fairly impromptu. We can just run the drills we've been doing. The real key is to be able to spot each other.

Btw, I was privileged to be a safety diver for my friends dynamic swim on the weekend. She broke the US Women's National Record. 150m (three lengths of an Olympic pool) on one breath. Pretty impressive!

The issue with evening sessions is trying to find a pool that will allow us to have a lane. In Sydney all the sessions are evenings (they have 3 training sessions a week at

different pools) but over there, there's a pool practically every bloody square mile. The other issue is a lot of pools in LA wont let us do apnea training.

I know carla does some work down south but that's also during the day and if you're not a member there's a $20 entrance fee.

I'd be interested in that. I'm going to check with my la fitness and see if I am able to bring fins and stuff in there because if you can they dont have to know exactly what your doing. Your doing laps. I think I saw a guy with fins in the pool once. I can get 2 guests in on my membership. What does the pool cost in culver city?

The key is to be able to get a lane to ourselves.

Re: Socal Freediving Group: Weekly Training Sessions.

If your using it with a couple of others. Ive never had a problem getting a lane to myself. normally its two people to a lane which has two sides enough room for 2 swimmers. It only gets busier in the summer but I think only one time I had 3 instead of 2. Normally when I go late at night theres one or two people swimming other then me and there are 4 or 5 lanes

Re: Socal Freediving Group: Weekly Training Sessions.

Already mentioned it to Tanc but there is a pool in Boyle Heights that I train at sometimes, Roosevelt High School Pool. It is never crowded and I always have had my own lane (although having been a swimmer I am used to sharing with a lot of people). They always seem to have some lanes roped off for lap swim. On weekends it is 50M and during the week it is 25. They are okay with apnea. $2.50 entrance. I mostly go in the evenings. Culver is very nice though since they are open long course (50M) almost every day.

Thanks.
