Sunken Vessel ERIK found

The sunken Ship ERIK has been found. A dive was made on the wreck and it is confirmed to be the ERIK.

I was not with the team this time but have been in contact with them.

It took multiple attempts and alot of patience to make this go down. Congrats to the team that hit it this time!

I pray for closure for the families.

Dale

Im supposed to keep all details of the site and conditions on wrap under orders of the Admiral of the Mexican Navy. (you know how that stuff goes Bill)

More operations may happen as a result of this and the entire area is now sealed off. Any vessels attempting to loiter in the area where the ship was known to go down will be stopped and boarded. There has been no recovery dives yet, only dives to verify the wreck and conditions for a future operation.

I may or may not be on that team when it happens.

The Families have been notified and of course all related Govt officials that were involved in this operation. We have had nothing but great assistance from the Civil Defense Force of Baja CA, the US consulate in Tiajuana and the Mexican Military forces operating in the area.

The three men that made this go down were
Joe Jacinto
Capt, Wings Stock
KC Stock
Congratulations to those guys for sticking it out and grid searching miles of ocean to unravel the info and find the wreck.

There are alot of things that have to be decided now. If a dive op happens I will be sure to let everyone know after its over.

Man, WTF is with people. There are still American Remains on that wreck.

This must have leaked out of the Consulate to the State Dept. dont people keep confidential info confidential any more?

That person wont give out their name, not only because they are not a spokesman for the families, but because there is still an ongoing operation down there and the people from the State Dept are supposed to keep their mouths shut on specifics.

I guess its popular now and days to show how connected you are by telling people classified information.

No offense to you Holy Mackerel, your just pullin info off the net.

Yea, its at 160 FSW in a trough with a heavy current ripping through even at slack tide. Its a dangerous dive and will require a serious dive team to mount and penetrate the structure. As you can imagine it is a mess

Re: Sunken Vessel ERIK found

Western Outdoor News has an article this week. The wreck was found in 147 feet of water after a shrimp net tangled on it.

Re: Sunken Vessel ERIK found

Glad it's been found. It's wishful thinking that they're going to convince the US Government to mount a recovery operation. Hopefully the families will either be able to make peace with a watery grave or they'll be able to raise private funds to recovery the bodies.

Re: Sunken Vessel ERIK found

Good news for the families with lost loved ones. I go line fishing every year on the Tony Reyes which follows the same route, and is essentially the identical ship. The same trip last year is what got me interested in spearfishing. It looks like i won't be ready for my trip this year in August, but I plan on being ready to go for 2013.

I'm glad the ship was found.

Great job to all those who helped and are continuing to help with the recovery efforts.
