http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook...OK%20Sitelinks The tablets let you download music and browse the web, but we got the Simple Touch with Glowlight and all they can do is read books. I read all the comparison reviews with Kindle, etc. and the Simple Touch with Glowlight was said to provide the best night light and the best reading in bright sunlight. Edit- I just checked the features, and it looks like only the highest end version lets you download music. |

Alright. The Judge said the one she is sending is pretty well outfitted so I am hoping so.

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
Ok, that's not a problem as their are places all over The Hive that have Wifi. Oddly enough.

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
Since the nearest English language public library is a ways away I read on an iPad exclusively unless someone gives me something or I find it in a hostal.
I don't worry about the tracking though I assume the .gov might be interested in what some of our more subversive members read. Mike

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
My Nook really came through last night. The power in the neighborhood went out about 8:30 and didn't come back for about 3 hours, but I was able to read my book.

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
Yeah, well, I have a generator and when the power goes down (happens a lot where I live) I fire up the generator and still read my printed pages. No electric books for me - the computer is bad enough.

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
OK, a generator will obviously do things that an E-reader won't, but it wouldn't have done what the E-reader did for me last night.
My wife was getting up at 3:45 this morning to compete on her horse all day, so she wanted to be in bed my 8. I was able to read my book in bed without disturbing her at all. But then I finished the book I was reading after about 30 minutes, but no problem. I purchased and downloaded another book and kept reading. And the book I bought just came out in hardback, but I got it for what was essentially the price of a paperback. I'll concede that I still prefer the feel of a real paper book in my hands, but the NOOK has so many advantages that I'm sticking with it. |

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
My wife and I both hit the pillow together so I would never fire up the generator when she was asleep in order to read. I am glad you found what works for you. Reading is an incredible adventure. I wish more people did so.

Re: Your E-book Is Reading You
For what its worth, here is a follow-up on my experience with my NOOKs. My wife and I are now so accustomed to it that holding a real paper book seems like a hardship.
We've been staying in a residence inn while waiting for our water-damaged house to be repaired, and I've been doing more reading than usual. When I finish a book at any time of day or night, I just go to the shopping mode and buy another one in a matter of minutes. No driving to a book store, roaming the aisles, and trying to plan ahead by coming home with an arm load of books. Last night about 10 PM I finished the Norweigan crime novel I was reading and felt like reading a bit longer. Within a couple of minutes I bought "No Easy Day," the newly published book by the former Navy SEAL who participated in the raid that killed Bin Laden, and started on it. It cost $12..99 and I suspect that I would have paid quite a bit more to buy it in hard back. No, I'm not on commission with Barnes and Noble. |
