Re: Newbie looking for advice!

I think what Bryan meant was that when you move slowly on the water, you burn up less O2.
Hence: longer bottom time.
Hence: more fish seen.
Hence: you appear as less of a threat.
Hence: they allow you to get closer.
Hence: they end up on your dinner plate.

With a little more practice, you'll learn soon enough (and, THAT'S the "silver bullet").

Re: Beginner looking for advice!

The best advice I have is ignore Kehloken's advice. He is a danger to himself and by the example he sets he is a danger to others as well.

If you want to progress you absolutely must only dive with buddies. Once you make that decision you will be amazed at how many friends you will make. Youll be turning people down because youll find that within a short time you have a couple dozen people as dive
buddies.

Learn about shallow water blackout and take a class.

Then you can begin to methodically scrutinize your technique and to drive the inefficiencies out of your dives. You will look at your state of relaxation and comfort on the surface, as you duck dive and during your descent. Get Umberto's book and read about finning, equalizing, etc.

Spend your time researching local freediving clubs and posting here for buddies; it will pay off in a big way. You need to dive with experienced people to progress at a good rate.

Ahhh okay!! So the silver bullet is more of a metaphor for the perfect situation! Well I will definitely practice all of that. I can't wait to get in the water next. Weather needs to clear a little though :/

"Silver bullet" = perfect solution.
Comes from: "The only weapon that kills a werewolf is a silver bullet" kind of like "Stake through the heart for vampires".

Dive safe and take your time in the learning process.

I am in san Diego and have a few different spots. shoot me a pm. I've been taking bcaa caps before diving lately. much more endurance and much more controlled breathing pattern.

Dear Tony R,

Under absolutely any circumstances, DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY FREEDIVING TIPS THAT kehloken gives you!!

He is a hazard and we do not want you to end up a statistic...

Join a local spearfishing club and make some new friends that are into the sport. Try to not dive alone.
